No one wants Jones. He’s not talented enough to play at his size. Doesn’t fit the defenseman model for today’s game.
- OLDSCHOOL#6

He’s definitely got offensive skill tho. He needs the right team.

10-15 minutes, run a PP..all for under 2 million bucks. That’s kind of valuable. Like a good 7th D, where a team like TB dresses 7 D

I think he gets low ball offers for Jones, and why he doesn’t trade him

All I heard towards the end of the season was, Rangers need to get younger, faster etc. when exactly and how does that happen cause I don’t see it.?
- OLDSCHOOL#6

Yea not sure. It’s why its crucial they find a way to move players like Krider, zib and Panarin over the next year

Absolutely. They gotta go sooner, rather than later. Problem is, Drury has to find a place for them to go, that can afford them, wants them, and they would waive to. It’s like trying pull a 6 for an inside straight.

It’s called a joke, get outside a little. Get some fresh air, your slip is showing.
- OLDSCHOOL#6

The premise of the joke is flawed. I’m currently outside. What should I do now

Kreider stays for the reasons mentioned by others. His cap hit is not terrible, though the Rangers could use that elsewhere. However, the cap savings could come from elsewhere, if creative.

To me, Chris Kreider needs to stay. And it's a two fold argument.

First: the emotional side.

I can't remember the last time the rangers had a true home grown full career player. Even Hank was jettisoned even though he never played for the caps. With all the turmoil and roster turnover, there needs to be someone who can showcase that it's more than "just business" as this organization has become. CK20 is one goal away from the record of PP goals and his number will likely be in the rafters when he retires. His cap hit is reasonable at 6.5mil for two years. He's been a not so quiet leader and I think his familiarity with Sullivan will be very important for the transition.

Part 2: the eye test
Let's be honest, CK20 had a down year this year, but like a broken record, so did the entire team except for a young stud winger who shall remain nameless. While his 42goal season may never be repeated as he's a few years older, I still see him potting 25 next year at a minimum. What 25 goal scorer is going to come in for less than CK20s current salary. The market is thin and the only way is to trade, which we'll not get back any decent return.

part 3: no where does he slot
So to me, CK is great third liner with special teams. He's never been a great 5on5 producer. It's been all about PP time for him. If you have him as net front on PP1, PK1, and 3rd line minutes, I feel his current salary is well justified and he should have a stat line of 25-40-65. That seems pretty reasonable in today's NHL. Also with JT Miller likely getting the C, having an American core that Sullivan trusts will go a long way.

I agree on many points here, except for the...well...points. How is Kreider racking up 40 assists playing on the 3rd line? And don't say on the PP. He is net front there...you don't get apples screening the goalie.

Kandre on the market.

“It’s not a guarantee, but that they are testing the market on Miller,” NHL insider Elliotte Friedman said on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast Wednesday. “They want to know what it is. We’ll see where it goes. But his name is definitely out there.”

I’m kind of willing to give him two more years. It’s in there maybe Sully can bring it out. I feel like he will explode at some point, offensively I mean. Like 20 goal season kind of stuff. IE- chychrun

Perhaps...if you put him back at forward where he played prior to being drafted.

The talent/ability to do it is in there is the point. A coach needs to find a way to bring it out of him. 5 million for him could be a steal eventually

I dunno. We've been waiting patiently for 5 years now. How much longer are we going to say this?

Kakko was improving (at $2.4M)...Key is declining (at $3.8M and will get around a $4.25 tender offer). I get what you are saying though. I just don't want to spend that $$$ on a maybe.

And that’s how I felt about Kakko lol

I could totally see this board calling out Drury all day and night for a bad Kandre trade
