my thinking with a sign and trade Ehlers for Lafreniere thing is that Ehlers doesnt wanna stay with Winnipeg, and they actually have a ton of cap space

so from their point of view trading what should be a late 2026 first rounder and a 2nd for Lafreniere should be appealing to them

it's kind of inspired by the K'Andre deal

I'm assuming that's what whoever gets Ehlers is going to do, give him a max length deal, if it's not a sign and trade he will sign somewhere on a 7 year deal

but it's pretty far fetched to think Rangers would be in on him

I think the easy answer is that they don’t devote significant cap space to goaltending.

But, they literally always disappoint in the post season.
