Thats the issue. Say Marner does take 12.5, and JT takes 5.5, Knies takes 7.5.....thats already 3.9 million more for the same three players than last years cap...which leaves you with $200 000 in cap space
Leafs really need to improve their bottom 6, they got caved in.
Filling it with AHL'ers no longer works....you need quality players. In order to get quality players you need cap space.

I dont know what he wants...Im sure he loves it here. But his play has been horrible.
Dubas giving these guys full NMC/NTC was foolish.....no one on the leafs should have gotten full NMC/NTC.....each should have had at least a 5 team list they would go to.

My caveat is that if we're resigning Marner and keeping the band together, we absolutely have to only do it if we can build a 3rd line that can contribute and have some mobility/puck movement on the backend.

Not sure how we do that with the cap available this upcoming season.

In 2026/27, cap is shooting up to like 115 or something, so we might have to be samsies next year, with the hope that the better FA crop and cap space puts us over the top while Marner and Matthews are still in their prime or close to it.

Maybe Benoit and Robertson continue to take another step forward in growth, plus Knies as well, and that makes us a better team. Obviously jettison Holmberg, Jarnkrok and Kampf too.

MNC/MTCs are part of the price of signing top players. Why would any of the core not expect them if everyone else has them?
