He's literally being investigated for the IR stuff as we speak. Not to mention he's a horrible person, we rag on the Oilers for employing horrible people all the time
His wiki:
 - NorthNuck
HE"S not - the Oilers are - massive difference. Name some other teams and players that have questionable IR/LTIR issues. I'll wait.
You can rag on them all you want - it doesnt mean its justified.
I'm not saying he hasn't done some questionable sh%t - from his gambling issues & wife accusations - ETC.
But for the last 4 years - he's kept his nose clean. I've been reading thru Oiler comments for the past hour and they're overwhelmingly positive.
What's important to me is he plays hard and can score - he's a legit top 6 guy which we need and he's much cheaper than what Boeser want$$
I DO NOT like the amount of penalties he takes. If he can get his temper in check he'll be a great addition. But if you wanna hang on to the past - go for it. |

There is no upside here, you're helping a division rival, someone who you'll need to beat just to get into the playoffs with their cap problems and you still need to replace Chytil as 2C because he's not reliable. We're down to 7 mil in cap space, this is a desperation move because they don't think they can sign a top 6 winger or center in free agency. - DariusKnight
OR maybe wait to see what other moves MGMT make before vilifying them.
Isn't the upside that he could help us beat the Oilers multiple times throughout the season? So in that sense they're essentially "helping us."
He also fills Boeser spot - at about 3 million cheaper and plays much differently in terms of actually throwing hits - something sorely needed in our top 6.
Could be a potentially TDL chip as well. So yeah, plenty of potential pros.

A head coach who raises a gang-rapist and now Kane? Geez - I guess it’s Vancouver vs Edmonton battling it out for most disgusting organization. Yikes. - Big23Questions

No, it helps no one but the Oilers. It gives them more cap space and allows them to get rid of a player with baggage to their division rival. Let's not forget that Kane was injured for most of the season and didn't exactly set the world on fire in the playoffs. It's literally a desperation move because they know Boeser isn't coming back and they don't think they can sign someone to replace him in FA and don't think Likker is quite ready to take his place. Let's not forget that at this point they only have 7 mil in cap space with a 2C and another Top 6 winger left to try and sign or trade for in UFA. That's a tall ask, this is JR/PA and FA trying to convince Q. Hughes to resign for the rest of his career in Vancouver. I don't have confidence that they're going to do much more than maybe slap more bandaids on this roster. |

All your "reasons" reek of knee jerk - as always. Its the first move of their off-season but you seem to already know that everything else they do will suck. How's your DeLorean running these days?
Can't see any positives in anything, ever - not sure why you even follow the team. You clearly have your mind made up - regardless of what else happens.
Enjoy the doom and the gloom tho!!

Ok, dude, for one, I get being positive. I get it, but there's a limit to that. Kane is 33 years old, older then JT Miller with roughly the same attitude. The only difference is that he's cheaper and only signed for this coming year. That's a positive and I'm willing to admit it. If we traded for him from like say, the Washington Capitals who the likelihood of us meeting in the playoffs would only be in the Finals, then I'd say we scored a huge win. The problem is that Edmonton is going to be a playoff team next year, and if you say they won't then I have a bridge over the Fraser to sell you. Vegas isn't going to likely miss and LA is improving. That means we either have to beat one of them and get into the top 3 of the Pacific, a tall ask because of our lack of scoring or make it through the WC and let's not forget that Calgary beat us in the standings.
If we somehow manage to pull off a huge trade or signing that nets us a 2C that's reliable in the mold of a Horvat (not saying we trade for him but that sort of 200ft Center that can score and anchor the PP2) then yes, this trade stops being a negative, but until then, it is a negative. Let's not forget that we're trying to build up a contender that will make Q. Hughes want to spend the rest of his prime and most of his productive years here after his contact is up in 2 years. Do you think this move does that? I don't think so. If you do? Great, you are much more optimistic then I could ever be. Every hockey analyst I have watched/listened to that isn't on Sportsnet or TSN or formerly of either all say this was a bad move and unnecessary.

I hate Kane but this just isn’t true. 3 other teams wanted Kane and he chose Van. They were getting out of the contract regardless |

I think to your original point about cap space - I don't look at trades as black/white, or completely great/horrible. Winner VS Loser. There's pros and cons, context and teams are trying to accomplish something different with each trade.
I also don't look at this as "helping the Oilers" with cap space - that's ridiculous. The Oilers are McD and Leon, and those two are the MAIN reasons we win or lose when we face off. They almost had enough $$ to sign Bouchard - they would've figured it out regardless. We didn't help them become a better team - they're still losing their 25-goal power-forward AND we're replacing Boeser with a guy that does the same thing, plays harder and costs less with no term. AND we gave up nothing (4th).
He sat out the season, still came back and scored 6 goals and 12 points in the playoffs. That's not nothing. That's actually kinda impressive considering his injuries. Now he has 3 months to get healthier.
This off season is unique - given the huge cap increase and the lack of available talent. This will be the first summer in a long time where most teams have cap freedom - to an extent. FA market is slim pickings, teams are NOT being forced to make dumb trades. Expecting a bunch of home run trades that miraculously makes us a contender is mental. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment.
Gotta be realistic in understanding the limitations every team is faced with - in regards to improving their team - Canucks included.
Lets circle back in a couple of weeks and see what the potential roster looks like.

It's one year of something we're missing for $5M and a 4th round pick. A blind extension would be an offence, not the move to acquire him.
I don't like Kane but as a hockey only move I find it a hard one to criticize. |

This 100%
When I woke up and saw this trade, my immediate thought was WTF! Terrible. After a coffee and thinking about it, there is very little downside. 1 year, cheaper than Boeser, for Ott 4th. He flames out, see ya. But he is in a last of his career opportunity for a decent contract. Desperate player may just perform. Like I said 25g / 25a and you have at least turned that 4th into a 2nd, and probably more to a contender.
This is where the team is at the moment. Way better than spending 8m on a FA with term.
Living in the Anus of Alberta, I can say he has been a great guy to the children's hospital (Stollery) and other charities around town. |

They've got to have something up their sleeve.
Trading for Rossi, resigning Suter and adding Kane would be a decent offseason.
Apparently Demko is looking more like he will be re-signed rather than shopped.
Silovs on the market? |

Kane - Rossi - Chytil wouldn't be a terrible line? Hopefully? Would still need a top line winger...
Think they need to trade a goalie. Demko gives them the best/highest upside of winning but also probably holds the most value |

I don't want to trade for Rossi. I'd rather trade for Peterka if we're going to make a move, even if he costs a little more. I'd rather roll with Pettersson, Chytl, Raty and Blueger down the middle next year than add another undersized C. |

Apparently Kudryavtsev had himself a solid playoffs as well. Played in 21 games and the team gave up 3 goals and scored 20 goals while he was on. Impressive. - York Newbury
