Id like a toilet made out of gold but that's not going to happen. There is no way you get Demko for less w/o giving term and with his injury history that doesn't seem like an option. A Silovs/Lankinen tandem going forward is scary as eff.
As for Garly, he is your heart and soul. The guy gives it his all and if 6x6 is what was needed then you do the deal. - claygolf83
Pretty much. Either give money or term. They settled on money. Also the possibility to trade him next year before his extension kicks in.
I think he'll rebound and form a pretty great tandem with Lanks. Not my favourite signing but understand it. |

There was absolutely no need to give him this contract - that's the point. They weren't backed into a corner - they had a full year to extend and see how he plays. He had no bargaining power given his injury history and inconsistency and it just didn't need to happen. Let alone giving him that much money! Terrible signing.
And I'd argue going with Arty/Lank is in no way scarier than trusting Demkos health.
It a horrible move - no matter how you spin it.
You're right about Garly, heart and soul and he's a beast every night. One of the best players I've seen along the boards ever - cus of his size. He creates a ton of chances and kills defenders cardio with his o-zone possession. |

If he stays healthy Demko is worth every penny. Garland worked his ass off and deservedly so got paid. |

Absolutely, the counter point to Brooks argument is what if we don't sign Demko, he stays healthy and re-establishes himself as the number 1.....what's he going to cost next off-season, and how much term is it going to take to get him signed? If there is no trade protection on his new deal, I'm happy with it. |

Wow thought for sure he was going to Minny for 8 X 8. Guess MNGT figures they need some scoring in Van. I would have moved on but here we are another 7 years of Brock. |

Wonder if Quinn has something to do with the signing, they are good friends. |

This years Jay Beagle - love watching the Bruins implode.

Damn that's harsh. You wouldn't happen to have an 8.5 million dollar pillow kicking around so I could cry myself to sleep? |

I think he left money on the table - based on signing today instead of yesterday.
He just turned 28yo so he still has some prime years left.
I'm interested to see if he can put up 30+ goals at any point of this contract.

Hey man based on your injuries - you deserve the criticism.
You can't be relied on but get healthy and prove us all wrong EVERY YEAR for the next 4 YEARS then you can walk away feeling like you actually earned the money.
Otherwise you'll be Dan Cloutier 2.0
Is that how you wanna be remembered.

Since all of this "criticism" is coming from a guy that's still trying to figure out how to properly play a 2 on 1, I'll take it with a grain of salt.
See you in the Ring of Honour. |

Yeah I don't think anyone is gonna dislike the player - kid nearly paralyzed himself back when Cutterbuck? hit him - then everything with his dad.
He's scored some MASSIVE goals for this team too - in our underwhelming last decade.
His game 3 hat trick in the Nashville series was epic. |

Crazy that amidst the ongoing locker room toxicity and Petey-driven division, three American players happily chose to re-sign in Vancouver |

Well, that was a snoozefest.
I was hoping the Canucks would sign players that make the team tougher to play against. But some of the money thrown at bottom six players (see Jeannot) was stupid crazy. I thought maybe Blias could push for a part time spot on the big club but Montreal gave him a one way contracts
With Boeser, Pouty, and Hughes the team will need a lot more toughness then they currently have. |

Yeah I don't think they're much tougher but the top lines are interesting...
Debrusk Petey Brock are a pretty decent line - those 3 are capable of logging those minutes but EP gotta rebound.
Kane, Chytil, Garland - is actually pretty intriguing, FH is highly skilled and they could keep teams hemmed in with Kane adding a tougher element - similar to what JT brought.
Dak, Karlsson Sherwood is a rough fawking line - if LK can take the leap that might be a tough line to play against.
Hogs, Bluegar, OConnor, Raty, Lekker, Sasson - other than DOC & Lek - those guys play hard in the corners.
I'm assuming MGMT wanna make at least one more move to bring in a scorer, but if they can't they're really relying on LK and Raty to take significant steps forward and really hoping for Dak, Hogs and DOC have better seasons.
I don't mind the Forwards but it'd be fantastic to add another guy and maybe cut ties with Hogs or TB to free up some cap space? |
