That was a very enjoyable series, actually the entire POs were great. I think Florida won this series with their play without the puck, and the Oiler's D sucked. - A_SteamingLombardi
I thought Florida really took over as the series went on. It was a great start that quickly became anticlimactic.
I have a Nootka Sound fish trip planned. - A_SteamingLombardi
That area was my coming of age place as a teenager, Gold River was home and Tahsis, Zeballos, rolling roadstead (Esperanza) was my weekend and summer stomping grounds. Check out Nesook bay, head bay, tulpana inlet, as a kid we slayed fish and dined on seafood of all varieties in these waters.
Edmonton outclassed for sure. Florida led for about 256 minutes in the series.. Edmonton just under 34 minutes.
As well, Podkolzin had more goals in the Finals than McDavid. Hilarious. - York Newbury
After game one I thought Florida just stepped on the gas and the Oilers throats. They got stronger as the series went on. Edmonton had no answer. Goaltending and defense very suspect for the Oilers.

Panthers seem like they toy with the opposition, like they did with the Leafs and the Oilers. They give you a glimmer of hope, then go on to rip your heart out.

My kind of hockey❤️ - Nuckerwhatever
You're a bit of a Neanderthal with some of your hockey takes, but I agree with you on the Panthers, I love the way they play some old-school style of playoff hockey.
They kind of remind me of the 80's Islanders, yeah they had Trottier & Bossy but they also had a lot of depth guys like Tonelli, Bourne, Gillies, Goring, Merrick, Nystrom, Sutter, Persson, etc. contributing at that depth level in the playoffs.
The Panthers don't "wow" you with amazing skill, they just play their 1-2-2 system so well, they're hard on pucks, they pressure you, puck retrieval, so solid defensively, good goaltending, good defense, just a lot of good stuff going on.

Ya, the Islanders are a pretty good comparison.
I know many fans from many teams, complain about how systems end up coaching the skill out of their favourite shiny player, but systems, especially good ones, win you the cup, shiny hockey gets you the bridesmaid trophy like Connor and Leon get to enjoy again.

"The Panthers tied the 1980 Islanders for having the most players (nine) with at least 15 points. Six of those had at least 20 points to tie the 1983 Islanders and 1985 Oilers."

It's more a reflection of McDavid's disappearance than Podz' skill - York Newbury
It's completely disingenuous to think that McDavid disappeared in the playoffs, or the finals, when you consider Hyman was out for the finals and RNH is injured, and probably shouldn't be playing. They're relying on a 40 year old Corey Perry to carry the load offensive beyond McDavid and Draisaitl.
Not to mention Florida just absolutely shutdown Edmonton the past four games. McDavid was basically on an island by himself offensive, he had 7 points in six games in the finals, 33 points in twenty two playoff games. There's a lot of finger pointing to go around in Edmonton, but it ain't at Connor McDavid.

He didn't disappear, but he didn't elevate himself/his team in the Finals. Not solely his fault, and all due credit to the Panthers, but when you're lauded as the best player in the game (especially the best offensive player) and you score 1 goal... there's something in there. I think this quote by Tkachuck (who was playing with a torn adductor and a hernia) is fitting:
“It just seemed when things got a little tough or hard everybody looked to him to be able to do it all himself,” Panthers winger Matthew Tkachuk said, specifically referring to McDavid. “It’s so hard to do that. You can’t do that.”
The team let him down for sure. Management, players (Drai didn't even have a shot on goal in the final game), his goalies.. but to score only one goal in the Finals is a bit rough as a messiah.
