Because you can’t ask the guys on a team you’re supposed to be leading to play 100% of every shift, all 3 zones if you’re not willing to do it yourself. No not Utah, Arizona. He could get some beer leaguers and put on a show where he scores highlight reel goals and coasts back to the D zone.

If McDavid does the same thing to the Oilers that Gretzky did then damn, that’s just flat out cruelty.

and what did Gretzky do to Edmonton? It was Pocklington that shipped him out.

Yes, but Gretzky was traded. He did not leave on his own accord. Add Ryan Smyth to the conversation. Another key player to the organization that the organization deemed better to be rid of.

Both Gretzky and Smyth were in tears at their press conferences.
If McDavid leaves, while it would be the organizations fault, it will be McDavid's choice.

Not yet it’s not, McDavid isn’t a free agent until July 1st 2026

Sorry, Bennett doesn't give a poop about a trophy that adds an extra million or two to his pay cheque. Not even one (frank) given about that. A 50 point player who has a trophy that will guarantee him 8+ million dollars per year. I bet he doesn't care at all.

Well, in Gretz situation, I'm not 100% sure he was 100% against the trade - was it just coincidence he ended up in the city where his wife was trying to make a living?
