So when did I disagree with that? Luongo hasn't been anywhere close to great this season.

He hasn't been great but he's hardly been pathetic.

STOP STOP STOP THIS NONSENSE!

Twas a game against the Carolina Failacanes... There is no need for comparing Luongo to Gustavsson.. none at all...

I was referring to his save percentage decreasing from a respectable level.

Hell our backups have outplayed Luongo and every Leaf goalie by a mile.

Raycroft is terrible. Don't expect him to keep this up. Gustavsson is a legit #1 goalie playing terrific.

Gustavsson with another terrific performance. His save % is now.918 on the season. He's in the top 10 and rising.

Could he be the real thing? Carey Price was the real thing, until the league got to know him and broke down his weaknesses.

Whenever a "new" goaltender comes into the league, no one (shooters) has a book on him. So let's wait and see what happens once they get to dissect his game and get a "book" on him.

i was wondering what his weakness was myself last night watchin the game. from what ive seen he is just dominant down low but i have not seen his glove or high blocker tested, he has also shown to be weak on breakaways, but how do u work that into your gameplan.

exploitable weaknesses are his rebound control and his puck handling.

Teams have to make sure they pressure him a lot when he leaves the net to play the puck, and need to get a lot of traffic infront of the net.

This is where Burke's blueline bruisers come in handy.

Again out of pity I'll let you have this one, it might boost your self esteem.

Gust looks phenomenal. He reminds me a lot of Luongo actually. Big guy, covers the bottom half very well, moves laterally amazingly well for his size.

Legit #1?? All 4 games makes him a legit #1??

The oilers have the same goalie as gustavsson in deslauriers. They play a very similar game and both played good hockey in the limited action they have seen. In fact, Deslauriers has actually played better than the "monster" and has a lower GAA ad higher save %.

so why is the monster a "legit #1 goalie" and the next "luongo"?? and deslauriers is not. Not one comment from an oiler fan about deslauriers being the next big thing, yet I have had to see toronto fans compare gustavsson to every great goalie in the game.

please stop your homerism. posters like you are the reason so many people hate the leafs.

edit: just noticed gustavsson 'technically' has 8 games even though some were drw ins from toskala sucking but still guys, let it go 8 games does not make him a #1 goalie. he is a good young goalie but theres no comparing him to luongo yet.

The Monster absolutely shredded the SEL last season. JDD unfortunately has not had a similar experience with a league of comparable talent.

Again with the bullpoop. I never, ever said he's "The Next Luongo". I said he's a legit starter. What's wrong with that?

And BTW, why bring Deslauiers into this. Who mentioned him? Deslauiers has played only 2 games. That's it. 2. Gustavsson has played 8. Deslauriers has faced only 70 shots. Gustavsson has faced 243.

And there is nothing in Deslauriers to suggest he has any potential like Gustavsson. To suggest he's as good, if not better based on two games is laughable. Deslauriers' numbers in the AHL weren't even that great.

Now you're being the homer.

Actually it does mean a lot. Gustavsson broke Lundqvist's records in the SEL. It's a very competitive league.

I know you're trying to say Leaf fans are overrating Gustavsson and he's not that good, blah, blah, blah. There's a reason 20 teams wanted this guy.

he played 10 games last year and looked incredible in 9 of them so they have played roughyl the same amount of games and they are the same age.

im just saying that EVERY oiler fan understands that its WAY WAY WAY too early to say he is a legit starter (thus why we got khabbi) or to even say how good he is yet.

only half of toronto fans seem to understand that its way too early to pass judgement on him. thats laughable...

Leaf fans can be more excited about Gustavsson because he is such a better prospect than Deslauriers is.

And Deslauriers' save % was .901.last season. Not bad, but not quite "Incredible". If that's incredible, maybe you're guilty of overrating him.

"In 42 regular-season games, Gustavsson posted four shutouts and led the League with a 1.96 GAA and .932 save percentage in 42 games. It was the first time since 2006 that a goalie in the league posted a GAA under 2.00."

"Gustavsson led Farjestads to the Swedish Elite League championship by allowing just 14 goals in 13 playoff games for a 1.03 goals-against average and .961 save percentage. He broke the SEL's shutout streak record by going more than 240 minutes without surrendering a goal in the playoffs."
