Cammalleri also stated that he didn't want to be in Toronto because he's there the whole summer, he wanted to at least live in other places. - Holy-Mackinaw
Very interesting, thank you.
Considering that after all the taxes and poop 6 million in Montreal is what? like 5.7 in Ontario? Money shouldn't have mattered much at that point since the Leafs had a lot of room under the cap.

One of the things most missed by Leaf fans is that the really high end UFAs have avoided signing in Toronto. I am not sure why it is that way. But clearly many high end players do not want to come to Toronto.

What's your examples? Who has spourned the Leafs exactly? The only recent big-name that has said no that I believe received an offer was Chara.

I'm not saying it's not true, but he said that after the fact. Maybe he did want to play for the Leafs, but 5 million isn't enough.
Anyone still think the Leafs could make the playoffs? They could put a few wins together and get everyone's hopes up again, but what you see is what you get with this team at this point I bet. Boston probably has a top 10 pick coming their way, unfortunately.

Easily. Kessel is not even any better than Cammalleri as it stands now (could change in the future), so having the picks as well would've been huge. - daeth
Not really. Cammalleri is a 27 year old, if the Leafs signed Cammalleri to this deal, he would be a 30 year old making $6 million by the time the team was actually competitive. Cammalleri couldn't even stay in the NHL at 22, let alone score 36 goals at 21. Plus the picks are not a lock to be in the Hall-Seguin range, and anyone past that point is likely not a better hockey player than Phil Kessel. Plus Kessel is proven, Hall and Seguin are not.

they better hope it's top ten, since they traded their top 5 pick for it

Does anybody still believe that Brian Blowhard actually thought this through? Do you think he has any understanding that he is just putting another face on the same old same old that the Leafs have done for the past twenty years. They deal the future in hopes of making a splash today.
I think Blowhard never thought that he would be caught this deep in the dung. He probably had some kind of back up plan to get a #1 pick (deal a very good roster player like Kaberle for a #1 pick). But if he deals a talent like Kaberle he only sinks deeper into the mess. If they give up a top five pick as a result of being less competitive the #1 pick that Chiarelli stole from Blowhard looks like grand larceny.

I just think it was poor timing for a trade like this. Haven't we already seen what it's like to have one star player on a team of bums? The only way out of this mess would be to get some elite free agents to come here, and by doing that they'd they'd screw over their cap bad and become the new Tampa Bay (when they still had Richards). I don't see how this strategy leads to a cup.
But seriously, it's looking like the 8th place East team will get the lowest amount of points to make the playoffs since pre-lockout. The East is very weak. That's why every couple of games, peoples' perceptions change. I'd only count out Carolina right now.

Are you saying a team with less than 90 points, will take the 8th seed?

It's possible this year, given how things are shaking out. The west has taken a higher portion of points off the East than normal, and there is more parity. It can make for a lower threshold.
