But Myers added more weight to his bank account.

The market has spoken.

It's true. One dimensional checking defensemen are less highly regarded than monster sized agile puck movers who can play excellent defensively as well as rack up 50+ points.

Just a fact

Anyone who isn't a Leaf fan would trade Schenn for Myers in a heartbeat.

In what world is Myers "Excellent Defensively"? The guy has been pretty brutal in his own end thus far.

Fair comparison, an aged veteran vs two young stud Defensemen just finishing their respective ELCs.

BTW you're alone on the "Schenn is better than Myers" island.

Only you would slam down the phone if offered Myers for Schenn straight up.

offensive players are usually +
defensive minded players whos job is jut to play against the other teams top lines are usually hovering around even give or take on a good team, or in the negative on a bad team. Guys like Madden whos entire job is a checking centre, have always had bad +/-

the leafs have not been a good team over the last... hell post lockout. Anyone using the leafs +/- to argue their case clearly shows the either
a- have no real hockey knowledge
b- just trolling

I fear there are a few kool aid drinkers who can never bring themselves to be objective. Other than for Doughty and Weber there are very few young Dmen that you would want ahead of Myers. Even watching Karllson put on his magic show last night would not cause me to deal Myers for him.

When the kool-aid kids come on and start pumping Schenn as being better than Myers they fail to recognize how unfair they are to the kid. They do not see that by hyping the kid and wanting him to be something more than what he is means at some point they will end up being disappointed. Schenn is one of the top (if not the top) young shut down Dmen in the league. He can be a superb #2 and have a long and successful career. He may reach the levels of a Scott Stevens and have a long and illustrious career. But he is not Scott Niedemeyer.

I despise the behavior of the kool aid drinkers because they do not think. In time they ruin everything that is natural and good by always wanting for it to be something other than what it really is.

He's far from an elite shutdown guy at this point. His height and lankiness makes him prone to be turned out on a rush, not to mention he gets hit hard about as often as he dishes out hits. Pretty good offensively, though he needs to improve on his 37 points if he wants to be better than average going forward and prove his rookie year wasn't a fluke.

He scored on less goal last season (80 games), than he did in his rookie season (82 games). Eleven less points in total.

To suggest that his rookie season was a fluke is kinda unfair.

so, a very noticeable decline in offense doesn't suggest a fluke?

I'm just curious, because whenever a Leaf goes through a sophomore slump, he's automatically a bust.

No, because the leaf player(s) are on a weaker team, therefore they are better players than players on better teams, who by that logic are worse players than those on the leafs.

That was your logic, when you argued that Schenn is better than Myers. What's the problem???

So, Phaneuf is one of the top d-men in hte league, right?
He did a helluva lot more to earn his contract than Myers did.

frozen molasses is quicker than you

Myers's +/- is better because he plays on a better team(more importantly, in front of a better goalie). +/- doesn't make one player better than another, it's a pretty useless stat, unless you want to argue that Alfredsson is one of the worst defensive players in the league, along with Chris Phillips and Karlsson(well, that one may be true)

- Schenn-Sational!

I didn't, I flat out said Myers is better offensively, but Schenn is still the better player overall, far better defensively and physically, and is considered more of a leader.
- Schenn-Sational!

.

Hummmm, wouldn't better "overall" include offense???

I see... so you think +/- is directly representative of player skill?

Would you like to trade Karlsson for Komi?

yes. But also defense, physicality, and leadership. Schenn wins each one of those categories easily.

Anointing him a future multiple Norris trophy winner is also a bit premature. There's nothing wrong with 37 points, but it doesn't put him in the elite of defensemen.

Again another fair comparison, a young player still on his ELC, and veteran who had the snot beaten out of him by Lucic a few seasons back.

We're comparing young Defencemen, and the statement that I'm responding to was the Schenn was better than Myers.

Only one person has that position, and would NOT trade Schenn for Myers straight up.

Most others would....................... Including Pierre McGuire who ranked them (Below), when asked to rate the following five, if he were starting a team and could select one of these five.
Doughty
Myers
Subban
Karlsson
Schenn

All have different skill sets, but as an overall player this is how he and I suspect most others would also rank these five. All five would be a great addition to any team.
