Except Gilbert is mobile and can play decent in his own one.
Honestly Franson=Barker IMO and I wouldn't be surprised to see Barker start the year as our #5. - gretzky
Ill have you know, I just tooK Linus “youtube“ omark in my keeper league.
That being said, it was into the last rounds and he will riding the pines all year.
I drafted him just so I could sit him.

What? He was your second best ranked prospect overall.
Gardiner is considered a top 50 NHL prospect.
It was a stupid trade by Murray. He could have had Beauchemin for free by just re-signing him 18 months earlier.
And "Solid Top 4" my a$$. You were laughing at how washed-up and overpaid he was when the Leafs signed him. And they got him for free as a UFA. Your GM gives up the organization's second best prospect and now that's a great move? |

he has poor mobility which leads to a ton of mistakes. I think the "smarts" are there though..
do you not wonder why Nashville gave him away? - gretzky
Because Lombardi's contract wasn't insured. Stop pretending you don't know that. |

Fowler, Sbisa, Schultz, Vatanen
Gardiner is not better than any of them and never will be, he got bypassed unless you think he's better than any of them? lol Vatanen is the best dman in Finland, and Schultz is the best dman in NCAA. unless you think Gardiner is better than Sbisa or Fowler |

Gardiner is better than all except Fowler.
Again, Gardiner was rated the Ducks second best prospect everywhere.
Horrible trade by the Ducks. Burke got him and all he had to do was sign Beauchemin for free. |

I watched Gardiner play last night. He had a great game and I thought that everyone would have had the same impression of him that I did. Obviously the coaching staff were not nearly as impressed as I was and their comments seem to reflect concerns around his decision making (I thought his decision making was better than Rundblad in the previous game). But, if that is the knock on his game it is a substantial shortfall and may be the reason why he was available at such a discount.
These were the comments reported by Ken Beckett, it is not the way that I saw Gardiner's play, but clearly he is issuing a warning.
T oronto Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins, who is also serving as the bench boss for the Leafs' rookie team this weekend, said after the game that Gardiner took some very risky chances that he still isn't sure he's a fan of, but that he got better as the game progressed.
"I thought it took him a little while to get going," Eakins said of Gardiner's start to the game. "The first period, I just don't think he had his rhythm. But as the game went on he got better and better."
"I'm not sure I love him taking that chance with 30 seconds left with four guys down in underneath the hash marks and we're trying to defend the lead. It was one of those moments on the bench where you're like 'Oh no, oh no, and then oh yes.' So good on him for finishing that up." |

Surely you understand that you don't want your dman pinching when you're up by one goal in the dying minutes...

I thought Gardiner played a great game and did not even notice the flaws. So, my thought is that either Eakins thinks he is a special talent and they are trying to get him to elevate his game. Or, he has a history of troubles with his decision making. Based on the two games I thought that Gardiner had a much better game than Rundblad so I was kind of surprised by Easkins comments.

I agree.....But that's his game. Why was he out there in that situation to begin with?
One poor decision (that turned out well) doesn't make it a bad game. |

I think the larger point might be you can do that against kids but try that in the NHL and you will killed on the ice and by your team mates in the dressing room. I think Eakins was sending a message that is okay in college but not in the NHL game. You wonder if it is the larger problem of a history of problems around decision making. Eakins did not restrict the comment to the one play but seemed to be implying it as a larger concern.

Also as I said earlier, that's his game. If you were putting him out there at that time you should make it clear that no one is to be pinching or rushing like that. Eakins said earlier that he gave Gardiner free reign to rush (becuase he was the only one on either team with the speed to get back). |

ROFL. nope.
You realize Gardiners offensive increase last year was directly tied to playing on Justin Schultz pairing? U realize his own college coach, railed on his hockey sense in a bob mckenzie article last season? I'd love to hear the reasoning why he's better than Schultz or Vatanen, which he's not
He's definitely not on par with Sbisa either, that's as ridiculous as your Bozak comments last year |

How is Shultz such a better prospect now?
The funny thing is, Shultz' stats shot-up once he was paired with Gardiner, yet you're convinced it was him that helped Gardiner, and not the other way around. |

That's obviously how it works...... The guy that scored consistently the same for some time pairs with a new guy who's stats skyrocket, but it's the other guys stats that shot up that helped make the guy that's stats stayed relatively the same.
