I hope the Jets sign and trade Copp while his value is at the highest. As a UFA at the end of the season he will be gone and the Jets have some NHL ready draft and develop players that can replace Copp. |

twitter is saying Jets are trying to acquire the older Scechnekov brother ( not the Carolina one !! ) the one who used to play for Detroit was a former first round pick but never caught on in detroit. i think he shoots left but plays right wing. cant say i've seen him play so have no thoughts but some guys in here love a good reclamation project. |

I am one of those guys. Low risk, high reward reclamation’s like Evgeni Svechnikov could end up working out great! If he sucks, then there is nothing gained and not really anything lost.
This is also the move I have been begging Chevy to make for sometime. |

I agree, I like this a lot more that taking on a reclamation project that comes with a high salary and cap hit. |

The reclamation part would be his history of one shoulder injury after another.

We should be doing our best to bring in as many promising reclamation projects as possible, since “nobody wants to play in Winnipeg”.
I am still all over the idea of bringing in Bobby Ryan. |

Totally agree Ultimate, have thought this for a long time that since the Jets do have some challenges in attracting talent they should look for reclamation projects to fill holes in the lineup and bring in talent, Detroit used to be the kings of turning reclamation projects into good useful players, could be a good strategy for the Jets.
I mean I'd much rather see the drafted and developed prospects be given a legit chance to make it BUT taking on a reclamation project is something I'd be fine with, I recall many hockey talking heads, writers and bloggers questioning wtf Sakic was doing when he signed no goals Nickushkin yet that worked out fairly well for the Avs, if we're going to block a prospects path I'd much rather see it being blocked by a low cost/risk reclamation project with upside then by the G.Bourque's and Letestu's of the league. |

Olli Jokinen, Eric Fehr, Brossoit, Beaulieu, Kulikov, Setoguchi, Tlusty
Are a few past (one current) that come to mind as reclamation projects. There are a few others that could fit the description of 'project'. Varying success with this group, some careers salvaged.
A challenge of actually signing a successful reclaimation is the question of when do they play? not much time left on the PP, 2nd line is strong, 3rd line has one spot open for a player who might score 10-15 goals and draw a lot of tough assignments requiring disciplined play, 4th line takes lineup spot away from a young player who is at least as cheap and has equal upside to their career. What kind of a free agent would want to enter those circumstances? the field is small for what would fit us fan's definition of a worthy project. |

None of the players you mentioned were considered reclamation projects. Setoguchi was traded for almost the same package we traded for Brendan Dillon. Kulikov was considered the prize free agent defenseman the year signed in Winnipeg. Beaulieau was a trade deadline deal that was designed to shore up our blue line. Broissant was brought in to be our back-up for Hellebyuck, mostly due to his relationship with Hellebyuck.Eric Fehr was brought in to be our second line winger. He was coming off of double shoulder surgery when he signed and that was also during the Jets unnatural season when there was tones of excitement for the Winnipeg returning to the NHL. And, finally Jokinen was signed to be our second line center.
I don’t see any part of that as being “reclamation”. |

Anything Chevy does now including Svechnikov would be to add to the depth at this stage for when injuries inevitably happen. There might be $1 MM or less of cap to play with so I would not expect any more deals that move the needle much. |

They were all 'buy low' players. Kulikov was about hoping to regain the form he showed in Florida, Beaulieu was about a career not thriving given he was a mid 1st round pick, Broissoit was dismissed by everyone and there was plenty of doubt about whether he could be NHL caliber, Fehr's career was off track due to the injuries and was for a reclamation due to doubt about his durability and general plateau of his career.

I don’t think offering Kulikov a 3 year deal at 4 million plus is “buy low”. Beaulieau was making close to 3 million when he was traded to Winnipeg. Fehr was great in Washington and I do believe was a cap causality and as a result signed in Winnipeg. Broissoit was always pegged as the back-up.
I guess we have different definitions of what reclamation means. |

Whether he makes the nhl or not I am cheering for the kid. Belarus is not a happy country right now, he will benefit from Jets resources to help him navigate the politics and getting him to the best development opportunities. |

He was originally scheduled to play next season in the OHL, wasn't he?
Probably $800-$900,000 looks pretty damn good to this kid. Actually it would to me as well.

Was supposed to play in the OHL this past season with Flint but due to the virus cancelling the OHL season he played in Belarus, where he'll play this upcoming season I have no idea.
Pretty sure he won't see much of that money until he starts playing in the organization either with the Jets or Moose, his AHL salary will be lower as well.
Hopefully he works out but damn is the organization flush with LHD especially smaller puck moving types.
JoMo, Heinola, Niku, Chisholm, Kuzmin Johannesson(not signed yet)
-That's a lot of the same kind of player. |
