Fwiw, Garmin also makes a golf GPS version that is basically the size of a watch face. You can clip it on your belt or bag, or just keep it in your pocket. |

i would dig it, if wearing a watch didn't mess with my head while swinging - TheMussel

Fun article in the Washington Post today, which I found oddly applicable to us armchair GMs.
Think you can land a plane in an emergency? Pilots explain why you can’t.
Aviation experts say it’s only happening in your Hollywood dreams
Pretty funny. |

GPS is within a yard of laser. Essentially no difference. Also, Laser is useless if you are obscured from the pin. GPS gives you yardages from anywhere, and also layup yardages to 50, 100, 150 yards. Waaay more useful. Also, GPS is instant. You DO NOT want to play behind a foursome that are rocking rangefinders. Waaay too slow. Best feature of GPS is multiple distances on approach shots: front edge, middle, pin, back edge. REALLY helps you pull the right club every time. |

my rangefinding usually speeds me up, just hit the laser and there's no more looking for markers and doing math
but a gps would be good for layout and scorekeeping I think
once I'm done wasting money on clubs I'll probably get one, or ask for one for my birthday from the wife
the garmin one with the screen looks good actually |

If the Leafs don't beat the Cats tonight I'm gonna renounce the Shanaplan and do a heel turn to megadowner.

But.. but... what if they tell me exactly what do to over a walkie talkie?
And what if they give me great reinforcement like "you can do this, I know you can" when I'm having doubts?!?

This would be true, if I hit consistently. 60 degree can either go 40 yards or 180 yards depending on whether I right under the ball or blade the (frank)er like a well struck 5 iron |

I'm not a great golfer, so I do like my watch. Biggest plus over a laser is I can't forget my watch in a golf cart (I walk, but go on r/golf - everyone talks about leaving their laser in the cart).
But seriously, I love the score keeping. After every shot, you tell it what club you used. At the end of every hole, punch in your score. At the end of every round, it saves it and uploads it to Garmin Connect. And it gives you a pretty accurate blow by blow of every hole - you can look at your distance for every shot, and where you landed. |

i just want an automated way to calculate handicap, and phone apps and hand calculations are pretty annoying
have you ever run into unsupported courses? |

So the golf club we joined includes an account with Golf Canada, where I calculate my handicap.
Garmin won't directly upload it to Golf Canada (although let's be honest - it might, and I just don't know how to do it!).
When I get home, I call up Golf Canada on one screen of my computer, and Garmin Connect on the other screen and look at my last game. I enter in every hole individually - takes less than two minutes. Golf Canada then does the calculations.

Never. They've got over 43,000 courses.
But see for yourself:
