who's being traded by the new GM? - dmnted
No one. Seven years of losing and they were going to bring back Dubas.
MLSE just wants money and low profile moves to keep the gravy train flowing.
Imagine being terrible employee for seven years and then getting a raise and a phone call from CEO thanking you for your hard work. Wild, wild stuff coming out of Canada these days. |

Treliving, Botterill, Chiarelli, Bergevin.
🤔
Shanahan is going to need to do better than this, imo. He needs a home run here. |

This is what I meant by not having a plan in place, even if you did have serious disagreements with Dubas…
Tree is the only one that gets a grade better than a D.
Also, how many people will Dubas take if he takes the Pittsburgh job?
You could be looking to fill multiple front office positions.
Time is of the essence- |

If you're simple enough to think a GM is rated by his employer entirely by numbers of playoff rounds then yes that would be true. A GMs job however is much more than draft a player sign a player trade a player. Maybe learn about the job and try again. |

It's a poopshow, I agree. It's also pretty clear Kyle was negotiating with a plan B in his pocket, and Shanahan wasn't. This is why I think Shanny needs a home run here. His ass is on the line. |

Dubas was just ok. Kinda like James Reimer. I've said it 1000 times 1000 different ways: the salary structure (frank)ed this team from properly balancing the roster. |

I don't know how. There's not much to hit.
Chiarelli is by far the worst.
Botterill has little experience and the experience he did have wasn't stellar - his drafting was ok, his signings were internal - Eichel 8x$10m and Skinner 8*$9m - and his trades were spotty. A couple of times they identified talented guys (Montour, Miller), but it was almost too early for them.
Bergevin, who I don't like much, actually has some decent hits in his track record, but also a number of misses. He is a gigantic fan of 2nd round picks judging by his trading history.
Treliving is riding high on a couple of big deals, but overall he grades out below average.

I think it was on overdrive that someone said that the new gm will be gifted a team that you can pencil in for at least 105 points before the season even starts.
That’s no small thing. |

who's being traded by the new GM? - dmnted
I'm starting to really think no one will be traded right away. I think there is something in the reports of Shanahan's calls to the players, and what he said at his presser - that changes might not necessarily occur right away. He mentioned next trade deadline in his presser. I think he wants stability to get the Matthews and Nylander contracts done. Then, I could see the focus shifting to a core shakeup. |

My point was to do more with his contribution as GM was not just to do with the roster.
"It was Dubas, then the assistant GM to Lamoriello, who oversaw the addition of Jeremy Bettle and the creation of a sports science department. It was Dubas, with the support of head coach Sheldon Keefe, who oversaw the expansion of a skill development program that allowed players to hone their abilities throughout the season.
Auston Matthews and John Tavares, in particular, have raved about the operation. Players like Conor Timmins spent morning after morning with skating coach Paul Matheson while skill development consultants like Denver Manderson joined the team for skill sessions on the road. The Leafs even brought their practice goalie, Andrew D’Agostini, on road trips, even the long ones, to spare their regular goaltenders some wear and tear.
That didn’t exist in the pre-Dubas era. There was no “process” in place, an organization-wide way of doing things that trickled down from the top into every corner of the organization. Information was more siloed in the Lamoriello days. After Dubas became GM that changed. Staff members from the research and development departments started attending practice regularly. The dress code was relaxed. Players and staff were free to sport facial hair and felt more comfortable being themselves. "
There is much more to being a GM than the names on jerseys, and it's probably not a coincidence that the people who have always been vocal about hating Dubas cannot seem to provide more insight than about a player on the team or the result of a season. They may as well be screaming "I actually have no idea what a GM actually does" |

The MLSE board might hear some opinions regarding personel that go against their thinking, Will they go with a guy with balls or will they go with a guy that will tow the company line.?

He better at least fix the coaching situation.
And while you may be right, I think it's the wrong move not to trade at least 1 of the core 4-5. In this order:
(Tavares)* obviously this is a no so....
Marner
Nylander
Rielly
Matthews* ONLY if he won't sign pre July 1st There is no way this team can lose him to free agency. NO.(frank)ING.WAY. Send him to Chicago at the draft and get Bedard and Seth Jones or Connor Murphy.
Matthews for 1stOA-Bedard and Seth Jones. Who says NO? (if he won't sign)
Matthews for 1st OA-Bedard and Connor Murphy. Who says NO? (if he won't sign)

Half Agree, If COVID didn't happen and the cap was going up as expected those contracts would not have been as onerous as they ended up. |

Matthews can’t sign pre-July 1. Teams aren’t going to know the cap going forward until the next GMs meeting (late June?) when they might get some idea about the next few years. Matthews said he wants to stay and the Leafs want to keep him so he’ll likely get done unless a new GM comes in and does some dumb deals. |
