Atkinson and Couturier playing 20+ minutes was a good sign. |

Thanks bill. I did like Emil’s game last night, and think by the end of the year he will be up.
Dont know much about Gardner. He wasn’t on my radar but he looks like a call up candidate this year. Is preseason, but thoughts?

Bill do you see anyway/path where both forest and Brink are in the starting lineup game 1? Excluding injuries.

Not this season, as it looks. Maybe in the latter half of his contract; a little bit next year, more in the final year. He's a player Tortorella likes on his 4th line. |

not sure I even see it next year.
In bold just shows more ineptness imo.
This is why Danny needs to try to move him which is a monumental task and highly unlikely.
I waive him and do not give the coach the option to play him. Maybe he retires after the season and becomes a development coach to "recoup" his money!!! |

Based on the last two games, looks to me like Brink has the advantage but this is a good problem to have. Hopefully they Both become contributors at the nhl level |

Don’t read too much into preseason games. As someone who has followed this team for 50+ years, I’ve seen quite a few players look like surefire NHLers in September, only to be struggling in the AHL by mid to late October.
While it’s nice to see Brink playing well, and Andrae picking things up, it’s still relatively meaningless until they can do it night in/night out over an extended period in the NHL.
That being said, if guys like Brink, Foerster, Andrae, Desnoyers et al are playing well over an extended period at LHV, and, if as expected, the Flyers are nowhere near a playoff spot by mid January, then it’s on Briere to start shipping out some vets to give these kids some extended time in the NHL. |

I really don’t have an issue with Torts, I like some of things he does and I think some are outdated. I like how he wants to build and win but the ND thing, if Allison continues and ND stays the same then Torts is a hypocrite, he said he would play the best players, ones that give the team the best chance. Last season no issue, first season and Torts was figuring it out, this season, you have Hathaway, and with the current Allison you would have a 4th who could also score. I would be ok ND coming in a game that the other team was real physical but at best he is a 13th forward |

I remember one pre-season, Jon Sims looked like a stud. Dominating games and scoring 6 goals in 5 games or something like that. Wasn't a full time NHL player. Guys like Brink and Foerster aren't in that position, as they're young players just developing but just to reinforce your point.

Care to provide an explanation of your comment yesterday:
"The overwhelming majority of NHL players are inconsistent in their play."

I remember MJL making this statement yesterday and for once I actually agree with him.
600-700 players in the league and maybe what the top 50 (probably over estimate) are consistent production/play throughout the year and career, not just "young guys".
JvR is a great example of a player in the league that is streaky in performance and production. Jeff Skinner is the epitome of inconsistency year by year, game by game. How many McDavid's or Crosby's or Bergeron's are in the league...yeah not many because the others are inconsistent. The same can be said about defensemen and goaltenders.
Would I say 70% of the league is inconsistent game by game...that would be "overwhelming majority".

I do not see the overwhelming majority being inconsistent.
JVR was pretty consistent in his production year in and year out. you knew what to expect. Streaky yeah I agree. Not in consistent to me.

It all comes down to whether someone uses the established definition of consistency or they change it.
