“It’s time for Gustav Forsling to get the respect he deserves: Forsling has been part of Florida’s top defense pairing for the past three years and has all but established himself as one of the NHL’s top defensemen, even if he isn’t getting the recognition.
The Panthers have given up just 20 goals during 5-on-5 play when Forsling is on the ice, the fewest goals among 68 defensemen who have had at least 750 minutes of ice time at full strength. According to the advanced hockey statistics webiste Natural Stat Trick, opponents’ expected goals for in these situations: 30.15, or about 10 more goal than they have actually allowed.
When Forsling is on the ice at full strength, the Panthers have controlled 59.17 percent of shot attempts. That’s the sixth-best mark among that same group of 68 defensemen.”
“Over the last three seasons, Forsling is +91.”
Getting Forsling re-signed is next priority after working a deal with rhino.
I’ve been wondering for three years how this guy ever got put on waivers. I know the Canes defense was loaded at the time, but still... Can’t believe he just fell into Zito’s hands. Just glad that however many teams passed on him before Zito could act.
