I found that, overall, the team played a better game than earlier on in the season. They were applying more pressure to the opposing team and going to te net more. They still have a tendancy to pass too often instead of shooting, but if they win, I guess that's not too much of an issue. Unlike previous wins where I felt they didn't deserve the points, I think yesterday's outcome was representative of the game. Not perfect, but at least, it's going in the right direction.
The one glaring issue is the powerplay, it's too static. The players aren't moving much, so the opposing team can apply pressure to the puck bearer, who then has to make a rushed play or only has one option for a pass, which then makes the receiver easy to apply pressure to. They only move a bit towards the net, tightening the box, and then pass to point, but with a tight box, there aren't many options for a shot. Poulin is also playing too high, she's pretty much at the point, I'd rather see her in the circles where she can unleash better shots. The whole powerplay needs to be scrapped and started anew. |
