I see both Ottawa and NJ are shopping their picks. I wouldn't mind seeing Det move up to one of them and swing for the fences. The last time we drafter an
Yzerman, it worked out really well, and while Cole Eiserman's ancestors decided to spell their name wrong, I think Detroit could use another Yzerman. To me, it's worth a shot for a high ceiling type of prospect.

There was at least one mock draft that had him slipping to Detroit. I do love the name thing, hilarious. There’s supposed to be a lot of defensive parity in the top 10 rankings, I think some potential high ceiling forwards could be there at 15. It would depend on the ask on moving up. One reason talked about for the decentralized draft was teams trying to hear picks and using that info to move up if it was someone they wanted. I’ve never been on the floor so I can’t tell you if that was going on or not. Would love to see internal rankings sheet.

He started making smart simple plays. Using his reach to poke check and put an opponent offsides. I love his skating at that size. Concerned about injuries but hoping solid training will add some lbs and strength. I do like this kid a lot

I don't really see the Wings moving up in the draft. They don't have extra picks in any rounds and i doubt that they trade Berggren or another young player to do it. Maybe they move back some spots in the 1st and manage to get rid of Holl to do it (wishful thinking).

I don't think Ottawa is looking to add a goalie as some media are making it sound like. I think they likely go into this season with what they have in net. I think like the Wings, they are looking to add a RHD for their top 4. They have Zub on the right side and a bunch of garbage (sounds familiar if you change Zub to Seider) and they likely try to use either Chabot or Chychrun to do it. No point for them to have Chychrun on the 3rd pair or playing his off-side in the top 4 given how bad he can be defensively. They need exactly what the Wings need and that is a RHD that can log top 4 minutes, be defensively sound, move the puck and be physical.

Him an Tanev (although less salary and term for Tanev) will likely have a lot of teams interested in them. Zadorov is another one that will get some calls...if only Yzerman had listened to me and signed Zadorov for cheaper instead of Chiarot.

With Vegas winning the cup last year and Florida likely winning this year, teams are going to be looking to get bigger and meaner...well aside from Yzerman who does like big defensemen although he gets some that are not physical like Holl and players that can't fight. Wings need some size and nastiness both on forward and defense.

For sure Vancouver is going to have some phone calls. It sounds like Hronek situation gets hot/cold. Qualifier is around 5.85 but it doesn’t sound like VAN wants to hit arbitration. Zadorov is definitely worth a look, would be nice to strap a draft pick to some less than savory contracts and clean up a bit. Fla has a serious shift in income to keep Reinhart in the flock and you’re exactly right. There seem to be GMs who will blow it up to try and become a recreation of the champs.

The bad GMs will overvalue size and nastiness.

That copy mentality is brutal. I don’t know if it’s just insecurity or a lack of vision but man you know it’s coming.

Holy crap. Chiclets episode 454, Brian Boucher talking about G’s in today’s NHL, go to about the 56-58min mark; SPOT ON about Husso….”…some guys just seem like they don’t wanna play….all of a sudden an injury pops up….” I know I keep referring to this pod, and I apologize for noting it all the time, but listen to Boucher & think Husso…..eerily reflective.

Oh, and yeah, I’d take a run at Zadorov for a year or 2….we need stability on the back end until we get the kids really sorted out.

I love the Chiclets crew. My hockey bud is a huge fan. If the price is right, wouldn’t mind Zadorov at all. Goalies are their own breed. I think it was Hasek that forced himself to sleep in the locker room after a bad loss. It’s a position that gets exposed quick and fans can be relentless. The “goalie union” looks out for each other, so to hear that he called that out is fairly telling. I can’t figure out Husso at all. The amount of time “rehabbing” this year and still not looking at a procedure seems like it could derail another chunk of time. But, surgeries aren’t perfect. Eichel took a big stance with getting disc replacement over fusion. It seems like the right call. If Husso ends up out for the year or a good chunk of it that’s not going to sit well. Thanks for that drop in. I love hearing former players chime in on the stuff they see after they retire.

Simek signed in the Czech league. Some detail stuff but was the salary offset for the SJ trade of Kostin. Had trouble staying healthy in the NHL, played for GR when he came in the deal.

Zadorov wants 6 x 6, and on the open market he will get near that! Van is gonna take one more run at the #'s with him and try to retain him. If so they will have to cut bait with someone else to get Hronek signed. Some say they may go to arbitration and just take 1 year! I don't think they get full value outta Hronek on a 1 year deal, he more liable to get traded if it goes that long.

Hronek’s Qualifier is almost 6 (5.85). If they go to arb, they’ll pay more. What’s so bizarre about all of this is that just a couple months ago there was talk of “confidence” that the team could sign Hronek at 7. That was the same number thought for Lindholm. Now there’s an issue (potentially) with both. The language has changed a lot in the past month. Interesting how it’s all developing. We’ll see how it plays out

Holl, Chiarot....imagine a world without them on our payroll.... I'm not a recent fan of Zadorov, I've been a fan for quite a while; he's a solid back-end guy....we really need that but are saddled with *those two*..... Zads is 29, so he'd be around for a while. Would really like to take a run at him.

Listen, I've seen all the talk about Hronek. He's good, no doubt. But his numbers, I just don't think they're sustainable. He got lucky w/Quinn, absolutely. Now, could it be that he was *that* good when he was with us? I dunno, I just.....something's off. I'd leave it be, honestly. And I think the team knows that as well. He's gonna cash in; RHD with great offensive numbers....but I question his d-ability in the long run....
