The Blue Jackets blogger suggested (or rather a fan suggested and they posted it) Laine for Marner straight up.

As if the Leafs would make that deal lol

Also Darren Dregger's 'thoughts' or feelings carry about as much water for me as a mesh laundry bag.

He is not well connected in my opinion, certainly much less so than other "hockey experts" and I find his takes generally just him dropping names of players and theories that he knows will continue to keep him relevant and employed. Wasn't he the one yapping about offer sheets all summer long back when Marner was up for his last contact?

I am completely on the Marner will be here opening day now because I don't think there is anything that they can do.. They will try to sign some D and then I think they will let some rookies roll and then take a run when Tavares comes off the books and the CAP goes up

for me, I would require either Johnson or Fantilli and 25% retained on Laine's contract just to consider a possible deal

I'm fine with Laine at 50% retained as long they include Werenski!

yup, some players have the Leafs by the short and curlies.
two weeks till we find out what possibilities are out there
I'd like to see Tavares signed for 4.4M cap hit for 3 yrs

Marner will resign $12.5 x 8 = $100M. Because no team will give him $14.28 x 7.
Best he will get on open market is $13 x 7= $91M. If he is smart his team will see the wisdom of taking $95-$100M over 8 years to stay and win with his home town team

Tavares will have to take $6/yr or less to stay with the team

In 2019-20, the salary of big 4 took up 49.64% of the cap

In 2025-26, the salary of big 4 will take up 47.01% of the cap (assuming cap will be $92 mil).

im a JT fan and I would not pay him anywhere close to 6 at this point. If anyone is going to take a discount to try and win with hometown team, its him

How fantastic would that be? Add those two and a legit RHD for the same cost as MM.

Fantilli, once fully recovered, replaces Tavares 25/26 and opens up a whole poop ton more $ for a 3C/G/D/W and anything else the team needs.

It would feel like winning the fuking lotto with all the $ this team would have for a change.

Same and I don't want to see Marner at any number over and above what Nylander got but I know I'm likely to be dissapointed.

Don't ever post his name in ALL CAPS. He'll tweak an ankle.

PS, don't even think about bold or italics.

Will be interesting to see what happens in a couple of weeks. If Tree signs Marner, I just can’t do it anymore! I can’t waste another year watching this, knowing that it means nothing come playoff time. Already got my eye on an Utah jersey. After over 50 yrs watching Leafs it’s going to be weird….but I just can’t watch this core anymore.

I think leaf fans are a little jaded about JT.

Across the league he was 30th in points for centers(65 and 29 were goals) and played 80 games. He is a steady and relatively healthy player. Guys like Malkin who only scored 67 pts this past year and are older signed for 6.1 million during the lower cap era.

Cap is going up in the next few years. I don't see why JT won't get 5 to 6 million on a short term deal with the leafs. It would be great if he took less but fans shouldn't expect it.

It's been less than 20% of those years watching this core (compete arguably better than a lot of other cores of other teams) and NOW you want to switch?

Utah colours will look nice on you

Yea it’s a sport. Calm the F down. We already got dangle w cornered the LFR meltdown market segment.

Like it or not MM and AM will own just about every major Leaf’s offensive statistical category if they stay for another 4-5 years so makes sense that MM will outward WN if only by a simidge

I hope they move him... "running it back" would be insane.

Also, haven't been on here in awhile- how does anyone put up with the pop-ups and ads everywhere- it's so gross and annoying.
