Very underwhelming return, but probably the best he could've done in the situation. Like all of his other deals, I hope he's not turning down better picks and prospects to ensure he's getting players back who can immediately jump into the lineup. Flames still win the trade if he turns into a dependable 4-6 D-man who's here for 10+ years.
Hearing from Devils people that he's kinda a Klapka-type in that he's really really big but doesn't play all that physically. He also takes a lot of bad penalties. |

For anyone about to complain, Conroy got the best he could get given a plethora of circumstances that we know nothing about.
Given all the underwhelming returns the Flames got from the players traded away this last season, we can safely say the Flames are now in a rebuild.
It would be interesting to see the roster today compared to the day before JG decided to sign in Colombus. Might be an idea for a blog over what will be a long boring summer for Flames fans. |
|
|
|
Just to add, the pick becomes an unprotected 2026 first rounder if New Jersey picks top ten next season.
Boldly predicting Vegas, Calgary and New Jersey finish 30th, 31st, and 32nd in two years. |

Not a bad idea! Fun fact: Once they hire a new guy, Gaudreau will be on his fourth head coach in two years since joining the Blue Jackets.👀 |

I guess 1 thing that's overlooked.... Calgary has over 25 MILLION in cap space now, that's HUGE. Just hope Conny doesn't give out crazy deals. |

I like this trade. Found money, as we signed him as a ufa. We get a 1st round pick and a huge 23 year old defenceman. Lots of time to improve, great contract.
Would have loved to get the 10th overall this year but it wasn’t to be.
Who’s the next to ask to be traded? |

Either way after giving Montreal a 1st next year, we still have 2 in 2025, and 2 in 2026.
Martone would look good in red. |

Hopefully both.
Mangiapani looked good at the Worlds playing with Couzins, is there a trade there? Buffalo has lots of decent prospects.
Coleman to Ottawa for 4 years of Korpisalo and 7th oa? Frees up cap for the Sens and gives them that special veteran player they’ve been talking about. |

A big, steady, young, affordable D was a glaring need for the club and Conny added a future 1st to boot.
The organization has been very patient developing Wolf and the fact is its time for him to get 40-50 starts and stake his claim.
WELL DONE CONNY! |

Who do you think Bahl will pair with? Add another d-man via free agency? |

Not sure where you guys got the 411 on Bahl, but he’s softer than soft serve….for real. I’ve watched him for 2 years and he’s not aggressive for his size at all. Now, maybe that’ll change? I didn’t see it. Barclay Goodrow beat him up. |

Pretty sure LA were in there but evidently Markstrom wanted East team. Probably why LA pulled trigger on that deal as soon as the Marky deal happened.
Also Markstrom was owed a $2.5 mill bonus come July 1, so probably the reason why the retention was what it was. |

I imagine Markstrom wanted to leave the Pacific. Way easier to travel to Jersey and have more time with the young family.
Conroy had his hands tied by Markstrom's decision. Let's hope he is a horrible fit in Jersey.
Is Kadri movable? If so it should be done asap. |

This feels like the perfect opportunity for Flames and Oilers fans to set aside our differences and come together to cheer a Canadian team to the ultimate prize, the Stanley Cup.
Too long has the Cup been won by an American team. For 31 years we've been waiting to bring the Cup home.
What say you brothers, shall we join forces for just a few days and bring Lord Stanley back to it's rightful place? |

Great deal conny.
Many seemed disappointed.
Wr got rid of a mid 30s.goalie which we signed via FA for a big, young, promising D that played all 82 games last year and another 1st rounder. The future is getting brighter. Way to go conroy. Time for the wolf. Now let's tank and get McKenna. Future is bright. |

i am not getting my hopes too high with Wolf just yet. But he deserves a good look.
Ideally, they would start the season with a veteran goaltender at the tail end of his career to take some of the pressure off of Wolf. But competition is a good thing, and it's time for one of these guys to carpe diem.
What are some ideas for Conroy to weaponize that cap space? |

With 5 years left Kadri would be a tough move, return would be meh & he would have more value mentoring the wave of young guys that will be hitting our lineup. Ditto for Huberdeau. We're going to need to hit the cap floor the way things are going
Conroy was reported saying contract talks with Kyllington are progressing, just takes time & he has lots on his plate. So I think that will get done. Probably term is whats holding that up.
I do like what the boys are saying on the Backburner that now is the time to trade Ras. He's a RHS #2 or #3, great cap hit for 2 more years would be in high demand. Will be 30 in 2 years & will want to get market paid at that time. Doesnt fit Flames timeline & if a team like Ottawa is hunting for a RHD then that #7 would be the price tag & if they dont want to pay it, fine, Flames either get a great return or keep him.
Im thinking thats the call as well. |

I was also listening to Barn Burner. They mentioned that Kadri is known to have a crappy attitude. I think part of the reason he played so well last year is that he knew the winds of change were coming, and he is hoping to jump ship.
There has got to be a team out there that is in win now mode that would eat the last couple years of that contract to try and keep thier window open.
