Most mock drafts in the past just went with whatever Swede or goalie (before Cossa) would be available with the Wings pick and called it a day.

It seems now they know a bit more about the Wings and Draper, that they like high floor/low ceiling forwards after Kasper and Danielson.

I really like this kid, he has some size, right handed shot who plays on the strong side. He has already played against men so let him develop in GR along side Danieldon, build some chemistry and join the Wings in 25-26. Kaspar Danielson MBD in GR could put up some big numbers.

There are a lot of people thinking we missed to boat on Eiserman, he could be the next Bossy or Zadina.

Was just chatting with a friend, his stock slipped impressively. I don’t know if interviews played a role or what. I’m just in a “wait and see” mode now. Hoping to catch the prospects events or at least get some clips

That took me back to Yzerman’s conference. Art R. Asked about scoring, and the GM talked about “weighting” jr/national goals against 17 and 18 year olds playing in men’s leagues overseas.

When you look at the rebuilding teams, while behind a few years, SJ, Utah, Anaheim and Chicago are going to be loaded. Another team to watch for is Columbus. In a few years they’re have Fantilli, Sillinger and Lidstrom as their top 3 Cs. Luckily, none are in the Atlantic.

High floor. Low ceiling. Good all round player. Meh. Totally predictable for this organization.

I would have taken a swing at high end skill. To me, that was Eiserman or Connelly. Next round we should target some more character guys and grinders.

I just posted Nygard’s first presser. Hung out with Axel and spoke about Wings. Seems to have connected well with ASP.

I'll go a little against the grain and say I think MBN has a little bit higher of a ceiling than most of you all seem to think. I think he's got more top line potential than Kasper or Danielson ever did.

That said, I also 100% would have chosen Eiserman.

I was surprised to see eiserman passed by 5 more teams before being picked.

I think Ny-guy has a bit more than some of you give him credit for. It seems that he caught fire and did most of his scoring in the second half of his last season against men. This shows that his learning is taking hold and he is flourishing. I even have heard scouting reports that he is not that far off from being in the NHL. He possess a strong body and if his game takes hold on NA ice maybe we see him in the 25-26 season with the Wings.

Hope you are right. But pretty certain this is not a top line player. To me, I've said all along this is a smart 2-way, hard-working middle 6 forward. A Swiss army knife guy that can maybe get 20 goals, 40-50 points, help on the PK, be an option for the PP, use his tenacity in a checking role if needed. My comparable might be someone like Nino Niederreiter or even a guy like JT Compher. Just a dependable middle 6 forward. Basically the easiest position to fill via free agency.

I don't think we are that far apart honestly. I just wouldn't go as far as saying "pretty certain" he won't be more. Give it maybe a 20 percent chance at being a genuine reliable first liner. So not super likely, but also a lot more likely than Kasper or Danielson.

I think the concern is that he's an elite finisher but that's it. He relies on linemates to create his chances and can't defend worth a damn.

IMO he's a one trick pony at this point, which means there's a lot of risk. A guy like that who isn't scoring and doesn't have a good playmaker to feed him all day is going to hurt more than he helps.

Still, I agree he should not have fallen all the way to 20. If his game rounds out a bit (and/or his shot turns out to be not just elite, but Ovechkinian) he's going to be extremely dangerous. I would not be surprised if MBN turns out to be the better player in the end but no doubt Eiserman has the higher ceiling.

Eiserman was the clear pick here. Yzerman sucks. Draper sucks. Artamonov in the 2nd is the only way they can save face here.

Ummmm........'kay. Wonder........Maybe....... Heck, I got nuthin'. Seeing lots of feedback that MBN is a solid player, blah blah blah.

Sennecke wasn't a surprise, great player. Was truly hoping Helenius would've been availabl, or Hage. Something happened with Eiserman, dropping to 20th after being projected as a Top10/MAYBE Top5. Be really interested to find out why......

Seeing some chatter surrounding Trouba, and not just here. Not sure who goes back, but hearing $2.5m retained of Trouba's salary......first time I saw anything other than some gwneral hypothesizing. Definitely bring some more physicality to Mo & Eddy. Dude can hit, man he hits like a train.

I see lots of "chatter" about building a team. Always massive amounts of hindsight. FLA only had 3 or 4 of their own draftees on their team over the lastfew years. Would have to see what other teams (minus VGK....they shouldn't factor in any conversation at this point; too new of a team...imo) did to build their SCF rosters. We didn't hit on super-stars because.....lottery. Thus, some picks need to be bigger hits, like Mo or Rayzor.... Holding out to see what the next week or so brings, then how camp looks. Trouba will benefit the defense, but the TEAM d needs to be fixed, goalies be damned.....

Detroit will be ok, in time. Maybe a bit longer than we may like, but.......Trying to find the promise that being a DRW fan would be easy......

Not going to take Brooks total word on this, but Trouba is in play.
I would rather Ekblad, but he would cost more.

To elaborate a little bit on my feelings about Kasper/Danielson vs MBN:

The former two, to me, seemed like reaches. Low ceiling guys who I felt should have gone in the late first round, but got picked purely because they were "safe." There was no way I was going to be super happy about those picks because no matter how the draft shook down, I did not believe either were close to being top 10 talents.

MBN on the other hand, feels like a legit top 10-15 pick to me. Yes he's got that high-floor/200-foot game that Detroit seems to be addicted to, but I think he's got decent offensive upside as well.

The main problem with the pick was simply the fact that Eiserman was still on the board. Under the circumstances you gotta take the guy with an outside chance at being a superstar over the guy who projects better on average but tops out at decent first liner.

Seravelli has him as being on the trade list. Frankly, I think Trouba is way overpaid. Would offer a 2nd at 50% retained. He was a major liability in the playoffs with poor decisions. He makes really selfish plays that take himself out of position and isn't great offensively or defensively to compensate.
