Hey Trevor! I think you forgot about the Russian goaltender we drafted as well.
I think Free Agency basically confirmed this is a complete rebuild & not a retool. With the $$$ spent by GM's yesterday, our cap space value just went up significantly as well.
So so we offersheet any of the following Pinto, Broberg or Holloway? $4.5 mill would only be a 2nd round pick & would cripple these teams to match. |

Skipped Zarubin. Other than great stats last season, I don’t know anything about Kirill. Seemed like your standard token goalie pick.
After Chechelev essentially destroyed that league (MHL) and didn’t pan out, I’m content with waiting a few years before getting any hopes up.
Munich of The Win Column made a strong case for the offer sheet route. Not huge on it. They’ll get us back eventually. |

Mantha was signed for 3.5 million, not 1.7. The problem with bringing Mantha in is he will continue to clog up the wing spots. 5 players are currently non-roster players who should be getting significant playing time next year to figure out if they're players or not. |

We could offer Ottawa a package for pinto. A player and pick for a sign and trade. |

Good catch! Thank you!
He’s played center for stretches. Would make life a lot easier if he can move back. Huberdeau did well with an imposing center in Sam Bennett in Florida.
That said, Pospisil at center is an enticing notion! |

Dont even need a sign & trade, no one is going to offer sheet him on us with the amount of cap space we have. |

Thanks for the blog Trevor.
I read somewhere that Pospisil played 1C for Slovakia at the last world tournament. Not sure if he played well or not.

None of the top ten Free Agents still available targets floats my boat, unless you're just trying to get to the cap floor.
I hope there is still a surprise or two on its way.
F**k Kylington if he can't recognize how good the Flames management treated him during his personal issues period. Dude should take whatever contract is offered, on a shorter-term deal if he wants, and try to cash in later in his career. |

They should go after Pinto. Then ship out Kadri.
A line of Pelltier-Mantha-Huberdeau would be fun to watch.

How about Monahan back with Johnny in Columbus now? Do we think that they still have chemistry?
I think it might work there for both of them. It won't be hard to beat, but better than Laine for sure. |

He might just want a fresh start. But I do not see anyone offering him term....unless he wants to go to Toronto, which would be great for his mental health.

He was killing it at Worlds until he got injured. Finished with seven points in seven games and drove the opposition nuts. |

I think it's a bit weird that no one is putting any blame on the team. He was reportedly asking for 2 years at 3 million. That's less than what a player of his calibre is worth and a very low risk signing for the Flames, especially where they're at in their retool. He understands there are some red flags and needs to prove himself again, but he also wants at least a little bit of stability. Can't really blame him for that.
The Flames' unwillingness to even talk about a deal longer than one year and that they seem to be loading up with players who play a very similar role to Kylington sure makes it look like they're not really interested in him sticking around long term. It makes sense he'd be looking for a team willing to offer a little more stability.
Also, the Flames do deserve some credit for how they handled the situation, but let's be real, every other team would've handled it the exact same way. |

Coronato playing on the 2nd and 4th line? I’m not sure he’s in good enough shape to do that. |

I thought he was offered a 2 year contract at the same $? Every team might have handled the situation the same but MAB was specifically talking about the Flames. I’d be Leary giving him anymore $ or term. Let Kylington prove he’s back to stay, probably direct orders from Edwards. |

why would we do 3mill?
At this point having not played for so long and questions about how resilient his mental health is, I think it would be a show me contract of 2 years at the same AAV as his last. He basically got the last contract without playing much of it.
Show us y ou can be consistent and stay in the lineup moving forward and he'd be rewarded. Asking to get 6 million wouldn't make sense for the team or any other team for that matter

As I said yesterday, the Mantha signing is perfect for the Flames. He’ll get a ton of ice and hopefully boost his value so the Flames can flip him for another 2nd at the trade deadline.
Let’s face it, if the kids are ready to play they’ll force their way onto the roster.
Over 20 mil in cap should allow the Flames to take on some Ltir contracts for more picks. |

If they had offered 2 years at 2.5 he probably would've accepted it. The Flames weren't willing to budge on offering more than a year.

Over the past three seasons, Jeff Skinner has scored the 14th most 5 on 5 goals in the NHL playing on a poor Sabres team that is more than the likes of Matt Tkachuk, Panarin, Kaprizov, and Nylander.
It's because you have so much buy-in defensively from the rest of the top six that you can add a player with a shoot first instinct like Skinner, especially for 500k cheaper than Mantha |

I am thinking Calgary wanted him to earn part of that last contract.

The fact that Kylington is still unsigned makes me think his expectations may not be realistic and that the Flames offer is market value for him. |

Whats next for the Flames? A few teams above the cap, maybe a trade or 2? Not sure who to give up and for what return. It's not a solid lineup but a pretty good retool start. |
