Albeit against the lowly Blackhawks, the team played well in the second and third periods. A bit too much pond hockey, or "river hockey" as Tocchet coined it lol, in the first period. Too wide open for his liking, I'm sure.

All four lines played well (especially the 3rd), that mix of Garland, Hoggy and Petey seems to be meshing well, they played excellent 5v5!! Miller was just ok at even strength, but a monster on the PP, for being injured he's their best forward by a mile.

Team needs another top four defenseman though, as you mentioned NYN, Hughes is getting too many minutes.

Hughes having a Norris-like start to this season. How can anyone not like this kid?

Thanks Yorky.

Now part two of working out the kinks is to get wins at home.

Then Petey to score and Dak to draw in by months end.

How's our value on that 11.6 mil contract?

I'm not sure I understand the question. The team won last night and everyone played well, including Pettersson, who had an excellent game. I don't care about his salary, I'm not paying him, I care about the team winning...which they did.

The 3rd line, in particular, played very well.
Brannstrom is turning into a nice surprise, although a limited sample size.
An entertaining game last night.

Oilers fans can't understand the team concept.

Yep. Garland as well has impressed me almost every shift. I was pretty vocal about wanting his ass out of town last year. There's no way now. He's an entirely different player under Tocchet than he was with Boudreau.

They did, the third line, they were probably the best line at even strength.

Me as well, I wanted him gone like Vantel, but he's a different player now. Tocchet is responsible for a lot of guys becoming more, Miller is also a prime example, he's a world class player now, Toc made him accountable to himself and to the team.

Ya, I wanted the Angry Elf traded too but last season changed my mind and the start of this season has cemented my feelings. And then there's my boy Keifer!

I hated him more than Messier at one point.
He was my 1st pick in the hockey pool this year. Got Hughes in the 2nd round.

Probably the best trade they never made. He's earned every minute of his top 6 icetime. I can't see him going back to bottom 6 any time soon either. Which will make things interesting when Joshua comes back.

Sure I get it winning is the goal but you seriously can't tell me you are not concerned with Pettersson on pace for 50 points lol. Hoping Tocchet has a plan to get him going at some point.

With a rising cap, no, I really don't care how much he gets paid. For a few reasons. Because he's super talented and the points will eventually come, and two, because a 200 foot game is more important than scoring 100+ points.

Petey can score in bunches, he can get 20 points in a ten game span. If he scores 80 points and plays a great 200 foot game, like he did last night, that's what matters. Barkov had 80 points last year and won the Cup, I want Petey to be Barkov, not McDavid.

Here's the list of all Cap Hits over $10M this season. I like Pouty more than most on the list. My only concern is that his contract is going to skew the canuck's contract structure.

1. Auston Matthews, Toronto, $13,250,000, four years, $53 million
2. Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado, $12,600,000, eight years, $100.8 million
3. Connor McDavid, Edmonton, $12,500,000, eight years, $100 million
4. Artemi Panarin, N.Y. Rangers, $11,642,857, seven years, $81.5 million
5. Elias Pettersson, Vancouver, $11,600,000, eight years, $92.8 million
6. Erik Karlsson, Pittsburgh, $11,500,000, eight years, $92 million
7. William Nylander, Toronto, $11,500,000, eight years, $92 million
8. David Pastrnak, Boston, $11,250,000, eight years, $89 million
9. Rasmus Dahlin, Buffalo, $11,000,000, eight years, $88 million
10. Drew Doughty, Los Angeles, $11,000,000, eight years, $88 million
11. John Tavares, Toronto, $11,000,000, seven years, $77 million
12. Mitch Marner, Toronto, $10,903,000, six years, $65,418,000
13. Jonathan Huberdeau, Calgary, $10,500,000, eight years, $84 million
14. Jack Eichel, Vegas, $10,000,000, eight years, $80 million
15. Aleksander Barkov, Florida, $10,000,000, eight years, $80 million
16. Sergei Bobrovsky, Florida, $10,000,000, seven years, $70 million

Fair points as I hope Petey gets 'Barkov' Status as well...a tall order however.

Either way game 7 of the SCF last season could have literally went either way and if McDavid got his cup somehow I'm sure you'd be singing his praises like you do Barkov.

Ultimately if one is being paid for being (and accomplishing) a 110-120 point player status you would hope that consistency of production would factor more into that. Petey as an 80 point player in a Barkov style at 8.5 to 9.5 mil is fine...at 11.6 I think it's questionable. But Like I said I'm hoping he picks up his game and as you said his 200' foot play has been very good.

It’s the edgy cool thing to do, criticize him because of his salary, a salary that was imposed of him by management. Then if anyone counters Mr. redneck racist vitriol you instantly become a coddler, a troll.
These types of comments are just from an individual that is trying to compensate for their own inadequacies, and probably several inadequacies.
