Maybe Yzerman can trade a second rd pick for Walman , he would be a big upgrade over Gustafson. LOL.

A huge upgrade. We know Fowler won’t come now after his press release. We were lucky to have Walman and Ghost.

First round picks should be on the table just not for old vets and it needs to be for guys that will be difference makers. The 1st round pick unless you pick top 3 to 5 or so (depending on the draft), isn't going to make an impact on the Wings for another 2 to 3 years more than likely if he ever does.

For example a 1st round pick used in a deal for the Islanders Dobson (not saying he is going to be available) then i have no problem with trading the pick. Heck i would probably deal ASP in a deal for Dobson since you know Dobson can make an impact right away.

Another way to go about trading a 1st would be to go after top prospects that are way closer to NHL ready than drafting one would be. For example trading a 1st for a prospect like Alexander Nikishin who could more than likely step in next season and have an impact.

Plus you can always put a condition with the pick being top 5 protected.
