He did admit to making a mistake but did not specify the details of the error. Why would someone choose one or the other as if it is exclusive? Usually when one admits to making a mistake like this they would go on to rectify the error by telling the truth. In this case, maybe just say something like "I'm sorry for saying that David Perron's newborn died, I should have done some research."
