Meh, another point. |

Lalonde and Bougner need to go. Yzerman if does nothing this week needs to follow them out the door. Team played okay today, Seider looks lost killing penalties today as his man coverage was awful on Debrusk. Second goal was entirely his fault on giving up on play. As many of us keep saying Lalonde must go |

How could we trade Walman and let Gostisbhere go and think we were going to improve? Gustafsson is hardly a replacement. Holl couldn't even crack the lineup last season. We took major steps back on the blue line. Edvinsson is a great addition, but he's a rookie. My gut tells me Yzerman is going to let this ship sink for a chance at the first pick. |

If this team sinks that we get a first overall pick then we need a new captain driving the ship at this year draft and for next year’s team. |

I know everyone wants to make trades and it's a huge theme on this board, but there are none to make. Who do the Wings have that they could trade that another team would want? Are there any teams in the entire NHL that would trade anything to get Tarasenko, Holl, Petry (NMC), Gustafsson, Chiarot, Motte, Husso, or any other aging veteran who is barely contributing? They are also at the cap so they can't take cap dumps. That means to make a trade, they have to give up prospects and/or picks which would set them back years.
Fischer, Motte, Kane, Petry, Husso and Lyon will all be gone next year and that'll free up about $16.5m. The following year they'll drop another $18.4m. At that point, they better have at least Cossa, Danielson, ASP, Lombardi, NSB and Buchelnikov and possibly a few others. They'll also be able to sign some higher end players than they've been able to, or needed to, the past few years, and they'll probably be in a position to move Larkin and DeBrincat for some good young players, as they are not the core of the future.
The reality is, this year isn't happening. Neither is next year. They have no plays they can make right now to improve the team. Once these wastes of roster spots fall off and they are replaced by prospects and FA adds, and most importantly, a goalie (and Cossa is that goalie and soon after, Augustine), THAT is when we can expect the Wings to be competitive and if they aren't, the rebuild failed. As Jeremy pointed out, the absolute misses in 2016, 2017 and 2018 set this program back years. If they had Tage Thompson in 2016, Martin Necas or Rober Thomas in 2017, and Hughes in 2018, this is a very different team, but they are where they are. |

you think too much of these prospects. they arent all going to work out.
that'll free up about $16.5m.
so what is yzerman going to waste that 16.5m on then.
yzerman needs to turn his phone and internet off on July 1

Most on this site regard that a rebuild should be a microwave oven result instead of a slow smoked side of beef. Patience takes time. Actually, the definition of patience is "long suffering" and Yawl are just adding more suffering and angst to the situation. |

Whelp... at least the GR Griffins are still red hot in the AHL. Was at the game last night and it's been a treat to watch this team play this year. Their consistency and work ethic is as good as I've seen in quite a few years.
I think LaLonde might need some pointers from Dan Watson (head coach). Their PK is #1 in the AHL at 90.8%. They played 3 games in 3 nights and still won yesterday against the Cleveland Monsters (also a first place team) that had been on a ten game win streak (ended by GR).
One thing I've noticed is this is a BIG Griffins team. They have 6 players at least 6'4" or bigger and a few that are 6'3 & 6'2". Not saying that automatically makes them good... but it shows along the boards, in front of the nets and in their forecheck. They don't get pushed around. What's interesting is how good this team plays despite losing Edvinsson, Kasper and Johanson from last season (three of their best players last season). This team has a great transition game and is defensively sound.
Jeremy... you should try and catch a couple games. It's been a fun ride so far this season. Van Andel Arena is a great venue to watch the games.
Cossa was just recalled by the Red Wings today for emergency conditions. Probably because Talbot got injured yesterday against Vancouver. |

Do I think too much of Cossa? Name a better goalie who is his age..anywhere on Earth would be fine. Don't know about Lombardi other than he's playing well this year. If he doesn't make it, big deal as he's a later pick. Buchelnikov is in the top 10 in KHL scoring as a 21-year-old and a human highlight reel. This year's top candidate for the Calder, Michkov, finished 41st in KHL scoring last year. If Danielson or NSB don't become NHLers, there will be no reason to watch the Wings for a decade or so anyway, but I suspect they'll become NHL players. As far as ASP goes, not a single D-man taken above him has played an NHL game, and he's doing great in the SHL. Other than Lombardi, I'm pretty confident the players I named will be on the Wings roster within a few years. |
