Well put. While he probably should have had some trade value, clearly he doesnt if he passed waivers. There are a lot of teams that could have been interested but have no roster spots open, so a trade could be possible but not anything that brings us any real value.

Our trade list right now:

Pettersson - Should get at least a 2nd (hopefully a 1st), but he isnt going to be traded until after the 4 Nations cup.

Rackell - its possible we could trade him but I dont think we should be pushing it super hard. I think with the cap increase and the good season he has had, contenders might find him a really attractive option at $5M for a few years. Not completely unreasonable that a team might offer up a 1st for him.

Grzelyck - He has been playing some solid hockey and could be a good runner up prize for a team missing out on Petts/Provorov. He could end up netting a 2nd or 3rd from the right buyer. I could even see some teams preferring him over Petts.

Karlsson - I don't think it happens in the regular season but there are a handful of teams that could/should be interested in him. Carolina and Ottawa both make a ton of sense. Karlsson & Glass (1/2 ret) for Burns and Kotkanemi (sp?) with us hopefully picking up a 1st or 2nd. Cap hit works, Burns sucks but his contract is expiring and Kotkanemi has a bad contract for a long time but one that could be managed with him playing 3C.

Glass/Lizotte - I could see a team like Edmonton who is seeking center depth being modestly interested. Something like Skinner and a 5th for Glass. More for Lizotte who I would prefer to keep.

Accari/DOC/Beau - maybe can get a late pick for one of these guys.

Jarry - I cant imagine there is a playoff team that is going to take this kind of risk on a guy who has had a recent habit of falling off at the end of the season. Hopefully the offseason we can find a buyer.

Great write up Ryan! Also nice follow up Mac! Pettersson I think will land a decent return for us. Provorov I believe wants to stay w/ CBJ. Grzelyck I have come full circle on. I didn't think he would have any value. Now I agree that he has some good value, I hope he is traded and glad he turned it around for us.

I believe Glass and Lizotte stay with the team. I do agree with your list of Acciari, DOC, and Beau. I believe they are all shopped/traded.

I have a gut feeling Ned gets traded and Blomqvist gets called up. I am hoping Jarry and Karlsson are traded in the offseason.

Potential for Call up:
Koivunen, Blomqvist, Broz, McGroarty, Poulin, Gruden, Imama.

With all the smoke with the Miller and Elias Pettersson situation. I do wonder if we would be able to get into the mix for Pettersson.

Maybe something like:

Elias Pettersson, Hoglander
for
Marcus Pettersson, Bunting/Rakell, DOC, Acciari, and a pick/prospect.

Logic being Van has been looking for a 2nd pairing LHD and current LHD while they deal with injuries. I add Bunting or Rakell (assuming Rakell) in the deal to help provide an offensive player in the deal which I assume Vancouver will be looking for in the deal. Hoglander ad DOC are an even swap since they both need new homes. I assume we add 2nd round picks and a prospect as well (so Vancouver can add additional players for their playoff run). A trade would allow Pettersson to be put into the 2nd line Center role with Malkin being bumped back to LW on the top line.

Adding Pettersson would make for an interesting offseason. Especially if we can move off a few more contracts (Hayes, Nedeljkovic, Jarry, Acciari) and be aggressive this offseason and still stick to the plan of trying to land Marner or Rantanen. A top 6 of

Malkin - Crosby - Rust
Bunting - Pettersson - Rantanen

I believe would definitely allow us to remain competitive.

If this conversation doesn’t start with how the (frank) does DOC get a jersey every night then it’s a dumb conversation. Pull and Hayes should be in every night over DOC and Nieto but DOC is the worse player on an NHL roster.

Good read. It really comes down to JP, Beau, Tomasino because Sully want's his PK'rs. Probably gonna keep and try to develop Tomasino. Might be able to get something for Beau in a trade and JP will be cut lose after the season. They should do him favor and send him down. Let him stay in shape. If he does well, maybe someone will want him. I don't understand why they haven't done that yet.

I would have toggled JP with some other players simply because nobody else is killing it, but Sully coaches mostly in a box these days.

This Pens team just isn't going to die. They lay a lot of stinkers, but impressive how they just seem to keep hanging in there when the GM didn't even try to improve the roster this year.

Right now it feels like we are a winger for Geno away from the playoffs. Unless we sell in a big way, we aren't going to get a good draft pick.

I don't think there is any scenario in which we get Pettersson. If Vancouver is dead set on trading Miller, he has a NTC and could decide he only wants to play for Pittsburgh (lol) but I'd put odds at 5%. Van needs a center back in any trade and we don't have one.

I do think both Rackell and Pettersson make sense for Vancouver, they may not be able to re-sign Boeser and Rack would be a great replacement.

Off-season, I'd love to chase Rantanen but he is going to get a max offer that we probably can't afford. To me, our best bet is to overpay Bennett to be 2C and maybe offer sheet one of the many, very good RFAs.

That's a good team they kept pace with. Amazing how our PP went from our Achilles heel to the only thing keeping us in games.

Good to see Jarry play an overall good game against a tough team.

Right. Very good game. Might have been Jarry's best game of the year.

My guess is Dubas wanted Puli-whatever to get his chance somewhere so placed him on waivers since noone would trade for him. He went unclaimed so trying to fluff up his trade value wasn't really going to work out (Which I find odd on this kind of player though!) That no other GM thought he was worth a roster spot

More than half of the teams in the league don't have a roster spot to have been able to claim him. I don't think he is the guy a team is going to scramble to find a way to claim in 24 hours. Duby probably didn't care to waste his time chasing the 16 or so teams to see if they had interest. Plus he might have been hoping to clear that roster spot.

Now every team knows he's available cheap for a trade and can inquire if they'd like.

Yeah that also makes sense
