So why not roll that play back a little further Sean? McDavid pushes Garland down, lays on him then punches him in the back of the head. Garland gets up and retaliates. Why no call on McDavid for the hold, interference or roughing first?

Oiler fans whining about Garland holding is laughable. Get a (frank)ing grip. McDavid initiated and should have been called first.

Then he goes full McBaby and cross checks him in the face. 2 games fully deserved. He should have gotten suspended for his flying elbow a week ago as well. Stop acting like McDavid’s poop don’t stink.

Better article than that shill Spector’s, but that’s a low bar to trip over.

Cross. Checking. Somebody. In. The. Face. Is. Not. Defending. Yourself.

Should Garland have gotten called for holding? Absolutely. And McDavid should have been called for roughing for punching him in the head. And let’s say that they DID call holding at some point there. Do you really think McDavid is going to not still cross-check him in the face? He doesn’t appear to be looking anywhere besides the play or at Garland that entire time. Now, I concede that if they call the hold and the rough the cross check doesn’t happen, since play gets killed first. But barring a dangerous hit, stick work, or the occasional dive, the NHL has always tried to lean into calling nothing rather than calling coincidentals.

I don’t for a second dispute that he doesn’t get the number of calls he ought to (and the case is the same for other superstars, as you mentioned). But trying to defending him doing something that, if it goes wrong, can end somebody’s career is disgusting.

McDavid crosschecked him in the side of the helmet, not the face. Big difference. Unlike the crosscheck Bouch took which was in the face. Myers should have gotten more.

At no point did I defend McDavid. I said if McDavid wants to take matters into his own hands, that’s his prerogative, but it’s 100% a dangerous hit and worthy of a suspension as I stated in the blog.

You've already proven today that you're not as swift as you used to be, but I guess it's showing up in your eyesight as well. You can honestly say to yourself that little jerk Garland did not close his legs around McDavid to hold him there? You think McDavid did a Corey Perry style "I'm just going to stay down here for a while on top of him, nothing to see here"? You're dreaming bud, McDavid tried 5 times to disengage because he wanted to score. He wanted nothing at all to do with Garland, while Garland had an agenda. As much as I cannot stand Garland, he did his job perfectly. Yes he deserved about 3 penalties, but he took the best player in the game out of the play...and got away with it.

Also, is McDavid a crybaby? or is he a vicious calculating monster throwing elbows like Mark Messier? You have to pick bud...not just spew nonsense. And you say you're not a lefty...trying to play both sides (and whining even worse than one).

Happy Inaguration Day by the way.

I was impressed Myers spoke to Bouchard after the game. Myers said he's never cross-checked anyone in the face in his whole career, and I believe him. Not a dirty player.

I've never known Myers to be a dirty player but I agree, the Canucks are a disgusting franchise who condone assault. Can you believe they used to have Todd Bertuzzi?

I totally agree with you, and I believe the elbow was intentional, therefore he is anything but a wimpy crybaby.

You can't take both sides...was my point. He's either a warrior that will bend rules, cross lines, etc to win OR a spineless wuss complaining and backing down. He can't be both.

McDavid gets so much physical abuse thar goes uncalled...and he just rolls with it.

I like seeing McDavid do that. Adds to the rivalry. Watching Drai back Garland up was hilarious. Sucks having McDavid out, but Drai will lead the way. The rematch should be good.

Should have been just 1 game for McD. Garland should have had three penalties called on him lol. Should be a fun rematch hopefully some blood.

McDavids elbow may have been up but massive dive and embellishment by the Minny player. Embarrassing.

Yeah, the player flopped big time, but it doesn't nullify Connor's "nothing to see here" elbow move into the player's chin. "Been there done that"...he meant to do it, even if just a little bit. Messier was the absolute king of this, his elbows were lethal.

I actually like seeing Connor defending himself a bit. Let's get serious for a minute though, I am slightly more on the side of him being a relatively weak player physically (more on the side of TurdFerg's "crybaby") than him being a physically dominant "warrior", but I do like to see him defending himself.

Was never going to be 1 game for either player, with the rematch 2 games away. Best for everyone's safety that they are not on the ice on Thursday, or there would have been more stupidity on display than what we see on these boards after Sean posts a blog.

*crayon

But yes the level of whining from Edmonton fans and media is ridiculous. McDavid is the best player in the world, by far. But he’s not a saint.

Mark Messier is one of the greatest players in Oilers, and the NHL history.
Messier was a very dirty player, and we all loved it and so did the other teams he played for.
If McDavid is dirty sometimes, he is in no way the only Great player to do so.

IMO, the NHL is losing millions by not letting the stars be stars.
Imagine in Matthews could play to to his full skill, without the interference and dirty plays against him.
Matthews would probably score 80 goals. How many millions would the NHL make if a USA born player scored 80 goals?
How much more entertaining would the game be if the McDavids, MacKinnons got to play to their full skills?
