Meh, just another game that points to the defense and the fact that Y did not address the personnel problems within it.

I'll just say that even the most optimistic Red Wings fans would have looked at this road trip and said it would have been a success if they were able to squeak out 4 points. If you're someone who set the bar at 8 points, you're delusional. This was a road trip where they were playing two teams at their peak, one previously dominant team that is "sliding" meaning they aren't winning cups but still have 3 of the best players on the planet.

They beat the best team in the league while being outshot more than 2 to 1. They doubled up TB on shots, they outshot Dallas 2 to 1 and out hit them. There were plenty of positives from the trip. We know more than half of their D shouldn't be in the league and this trip showed it. Their D got caught watching the play on at least 5 goals that I noticed. That was after they did it three times in one game against SJS.

With the D they have, and not having an elite goalie, there is no possible way they'll make the playoffs this year, but they're losing some dead weight after this season, and even more the following. Right now, they have 4 post-rebuild drafted players on the roster, I'm going to wait until they have at least 8, including one of the goalies, before I label the rebuild a failure.

As I’d written, normally the FLA split would be a win. 1 out of 4 on the next two also. The problem is how deep the hole already was, and the misqueues in front of the net. Absolutely this would normally be a fair showing on the rad. But the D issues are re exacerbated. Chiarot scored one, but he watched another one go in. Kane was a step behind and Chiarot left one side of the net wide open with over coverage on the other. The culture is changing, but in the meantime 3 point games in the East and a por defense make for a rough run. If Chiarot were coming off the books (Holl and Copp too) it may be easier to stomach. It’s opinion, for sure. But I don’t think it’s a stretch either

Just a follow up. I didn’t say the rebuild was a failure, I said the bump is gone. Meaning, that post change bump when a new coach comes in. They won 7 of 8. I also think it’s fair to say that the power play and goaltending accounted for the only win on the trip. No one with any sanity was looking for 8 points. The game in Philly was the most winnable of the trip thus far. It’s a bit of a frustration to be put into the context of “rebuild failure” when that’s not what I’ve alluded to. Good things are coming down the pipe. The team has 4 players left from the Holland era, 2 of which were mostly in GR still at that point. Only Petry is leaving on the D and that’s a problem. Copp having another year is also an issue. Dollar for dollar Kasper seems to be the better player making quite a bit less. I think the culture is headed in a better direction, but I’ve never said the rebuild was a failure. Others have, and will. I’m not in that group
