"The current projection for next season’s salary cap laid out by commissioner Gary Bettman last month is $92.4MM, but better revenue projections over the past few weeks have added fuel to the fire of a significantly higher increase. Player agents have predicated an increase to as high as $97MM for 2025-26, Friedman wrote, a $9MM jump from this year’s $88MM ceiling."

I see Rantanen and Marner will get $14M x 8 !

I was reading about that. Walsh “guaranteed” a cap of 97m last week. There’s a major issue coming that’s getting ignored. Though HRR is on the rise to the point where Escrow isn’t being withheld any more this season, the NHL needs to get their new broadcast deals. The NBA is going from 2B per season to 7.5B per season. ESPN went nuts, TNT lost the league, and Amazon got exclusive games. TNT (and Universal) along with NBC properties are looking at real $ issues (MSNBC removed from Comcast network a couple weeks ago). The gambling and ads have been big, but once Amazon gets more exclusive games and ESPN continues to have weak return (and if TNT is sold off) the problem gets big. Will be doing a video next week on some CHL stuff and the NCAA outlook after finishing part 4 of that series tomorrow. Want the best, but 5b extra going to NBA who is losing viewership is not good
