Jeremy Laura: Wings face Ottawa, but fan eyes may already be looking to Griffins

Remember, it's much easier to win in January and February, than it is in March and beyond. With the injury bug up front and in net, and several d-men who are no longer NHL capable, they just aren't built to win right now. Last year, Raymond got really hot at the right time, and Larkin came off an injury on fire, all of which was helped by Kane. Raymond and Larkin played awesome through February, but DeBrincat is the only forward who has played consistently throughout the season. A team without depth can't win unless all cylinders are firing, and all cylinders can't fire when some of the spark plugs need to be tossed to the curb and replaced. It's going to be a long few weeks.

I do come bearing good news though. I hit the Sim Lottery button on Tankathon and the very first try moved the Wings up to #2. Michael Misa with the Winged Wheel will look awful nice, and everyone knows that the Tankathon lottery SIM is scientifically accurate!

A different subject, but for what it is worth I will be attending the Ottawa game tonight. I am 6-0 at games I attended to date wearing my white Howe Jersey.

I think beyond time of year, the team was legitimately playing differently from McLellan’s arrival to the return from break. They had got back to a basic model based on defensive responsibility and fallen back into bad habits. As for the lottery and tanking, I have exceptionally little faith that even if Detroit were to “tank” the rest of the way they wouldn’t be pushed back by the lotto. Their “lotto luck” is so historically bad it caused a 2 hr heated debate at a GM meeting and rules based on Edmonton and Buffalo’s affinity for top pick. We can all opine about the difference, but the reality of a horrid start and late change don’t alter that the team had to perform at a much higher level than was likely realistic.

Oh for sure. Raymond’s confidence has soared as a kid who hit the NHL ice at 19. Even Seider was racking up awards and if we can put together a decent top 4 I think he’ll go well with time. Really enjoy watching Lucas play

This team is a heartless bunch. Biggest favour Yzerman did for Perron , Ghost, and Walman was letting them go to teams that have some leadership not just on ice but in the front office. Hope they come back in third but we know what this team is made up of. They should trade Larkin who no longer looks like he cares and has been playing terrible since the break for Travis Koneccy. Also why are we still playing Holl bring up Tumomisto. Yzerman dis like for players and who he likes is really hurting this team and most of his moves are questionable. Good at drafting but Yzerman is terrible at building a team should be given a title like president of something to get him out of the Gm job. Buffalo and Detroit are the worst run organization in the NHL by a mile.
