Also, signing Dumoulin would be getting a big tough veteran D man who knows Sully.

Reason being, IMO Byram is better than Miller. Miller has potential but its just crazy seeing him make the same mistakes year after year and I dont think he deserves the extension he will likely command. Byram will add elite skating and a secondary source of scoring from the defense.

Panarin is a top 20ish player in the league, c but one of the main reasons we have an East West identity. Will we score less goals? Possibly. But not nearly as many as some might think. I think we’d become a better team by adding a different type of player to fill his spot as well as have more cap space to make the roster deeper, especially with Igor’s contract kicking in next season.

A good bottom 6 is just as important as a good top 6, when our 3C options are Carrick and Parsenen, we need to address that.

Im curious if Sully runs a 3C setup with Miller, Zib, Trocheck like he had in PIT with Crosby, Malkin, Staal. I feel like, its the right thing to do in terms of making three line depth.

My vote is Panarin. Did anyone see the “great 8” last night on Carolina’ game winning goal? Lolly gagged back. No care to play defense. No care to backcheck. Same with Panarin. Scores some tremendous goals, but as soon as the checking gets tight, here comes the coast to the boards and cross ice passes. As much as I want Mika gone, there’s more of a chance of him returning to the 2 way player he was. Panarin, if you can convince him to go, and you can find a trade partner with cap space, gets more in return.

Look, the Rangers are currently in a spot where they have too much money tied up in a group of forwards that is rapidly starting to show it's age. They need young pieces and a lot of them.

Artemi Panarin, with two years left on his contract and still a point per game player, can get you that.

Think about it: You gain a bunch of assets to help long term, you open up space for desperately needed depth help in the short term, and you give the now 24 year old Lafreniere an honest-to-god shot at proving he's something greater than just a solid 2nd line player.

Now you probably aren't signing Boeser with that cap space, but you could sign, say, Kuzmenko and Gavrikov. I'd also move Zib to the wing in this scenario to take some defensive responsibilities off his plate and let him focus on getting the puck to the net.

Blake seems to have some grit to him though, Im not sure Gabe is that guy. However Berard, definitely is that guy. IMO Id play Gabe with Miller.

He was? Hah, I feel like he was there a lot longer than he actually was.

But that Hagelin, Bonino, Kessel line was an absolute killer in the playoffs. One of those lines that on paper makes absolutely no sense, but it worked… well.

I would say Panarin because of his trade value but he only has next year left and I think he gets moved at the TDL anyway so my answer is Igor.

I’m looking at this question as a “compliance buyout” to a certain degree and I absolutely hate his contract. I’d obviously be looking to get a younger blue chip prospect goalie back in the trade and we also have Garand waiting in the wings too. He’ll be 30 next season when his 8 year contact starts. That’s brutal.

Take your pick, so many choices.

But if I’m being realistic it’s K Miller. He’s not a NHL defenseman, terrible reads, awful giveaways in the D zone.

However, if you’re telling me he’s moving to the wing, I would keep him and watch him blossom using his speed and nose for the net. It’s so obvious.

Right. Phil Kessel played with Bonino on the 3rd line. Rutherford's first few years were magical. Was mostly sideways after that.

Solely from a hockey perspective it has to be Mika for me. Assuming NMC don’t exist. Is he an $8.5m 3c? Is he a top 6 RW? Hes a luxury (very loosely used here) that we cannot afford. He was so bad and so disinterested for such a large portion of last season in such a frustrating way that he’s just gotta go. I really don’t feel like a gap is even created by getting rid of him. Addition by subtraction. A fraction of his cap hit can be used on a 3c. Sorry if that’s just not enough of a rationale but it’s all I got

Rationale- Unfortunately the end of another era without a cup. He has to be pushed out no matter how you slice it. These kids need his spot in the top 9, wherever he would be. Othmann, Berard and Perrault are the future, and it needs to start now imo
