Best news I've heard all summer.

I'd resign Trenin maybe add a little depth and wait. Nobody known to be available interests me.

Maybe a lot of us can sleep a little better now, lol. 8.5 per is about as generous as you could've hoped for, and about where I thought he would and should end up. I was worried the hold up was because he was asking for something ridiculous.

Huge. Now take advantage of Cap room and add another significant Forward

Probably. But certainly the right move for at least the next 4 years and as the Cap rises not going to hurt much. And Preds haven’t been a Cap team so just glad they are spending money. Better it goes to player than sit there unused like last couple of years.

Glad this is done. What did they do with Cousins and Benning release them? Should have kept Benning and dumped Fabbro.

Defense is set with Josi, Eckholm, McDonagh, Carrier, Borowiecki, Fabbro, and Lauzon the top 7.

Forward group is not deep. Room to spend that 10 million Cap space on a couple of top 9 forwards. I count 10 forwards, am I forgetting anyone? Is there someone on Milwaukee they want on the team. Cody Glass?

You might well be right on Fabro but I keep thinking there is more in him. He just turned 24 so maybe he'll bloom late.

Then again, his numbers prior to playing in the NHL vs the past three seasons do give some pause.

Countering that are that he doubled his points in 21/22 vs 20/21 on only 50% more games this past season vs 20/21. Also went positive +/- this past season for whatever that's worth along with much lower PIM avg.

I hold out hope for Fabro unless there's a beneficial (for the Preds) trade involved.

Agreed on Fabbro. He's definitely taken a few steps back but defenseman (for the most part) are late bloomers. Most defenseman who have excelled within the Preds organization have spent considerable time in Milwaukee before taking the jump to the show. Fabbro didn't have that luxury of developing there. Trial by fire. I think he takes a big step forward this year. For his sake and the Preds, he has to. He's still a very cerebral player, but lacks confidence. He has the ability to do what needs to be done, but for some reason is held back. Big year for him here!

I see another move coming. Trenin will take up some of that $9.6m you quoted but it still leaves open a door to be explored. I think we hit the cap this year, especially given the moves we have made recently. The depth is there, it's the top 6 we need to deal with. Palat is interesting as Ek alluded to. I'm curious what happens to Malkin, man would I love taking a swing there just for fun. There are moves to be made and rest assured Poile & Co. are not resting on any laurels this summer. At least that's what my spidey senses are telling me.

Not understanding what you mean by "peaked a few seasons ago". Where exactly did Fabbro "peak"? Can you clarify that statement a bit?

Stats below aren't anything to write home about. However, last season was a definite improvement over the previous NHL seasons.

For a D-man who was 23 for all of this past season and one who was basically thrown in the league early following a couple of years at Boston U, they aren't so bad. Age 20 (4-games in 18/19) and 64 games in 19/20 at age 21.

I'd be careful about giving up on a promising young defenseman too early.

Season-Games-Goals-Assists-Points-PlusMinus-PIM
2018-2019 4 1 0 1 -1 0
2019-2020 64 5 6 11 -7 38
2020-2021 40 2 10 12 -1 23
2021-2022 66 3 21 24 +13 24

Sorry about the lack of a proper table. The stats presentation is crappy but mostly decipherable I think.
