With them losing Washington to the Bears, they need a DC. Whether or not that guy will be the playcaller is the question. |

In large part, because it's so early for them.
Zegras 5.75 is probably well beyond their top end bridge.
Vallardi, Dach, Newhook, Necas, Glass all in the 2.5-3.5 range. - Lunaion
Looked things up.
Can't do a 3 year bridge unless you want to recreate the Reinhart situation as it'd walk both to a year before UFA status with ARB rights.
2 year bridge would be the term, if they don't go long term.
As for your comparables:
Vilardi - Signed a 2 year deal at $3.4M (4% of cap) per after a 23 goal 18 assist season, and that season was the first bridge deal he got (one season term)
Dach - Signed a 4 year bridge (!!) at $3.4M (4% of cap) per after the trade from Chicago to Montreal, and a 9 goal 17 assist season
Newhook - Another Kent Hughes special, signing him to a 4 year bridge (!!) at $2.9M per (3.5% of cap) after a 14 goal 16 assist season
Necas - Signed to a 2 year bridge after this ELC (and a pair of slide seasons) at $3M per (3.5% of cap) after a 14 goal 26 assist season
Glass - Signed a 2 year bridge off his ELC (and a pair of slide seasons and a 1 year bridge) at $2.5M per (3% of cap) after a 14 goal 21 assist season
Zegras - Signed a 3 year, hotly contentious bridge off his ELC deal at $5.7M per (7% of cap) after a breakout 23 goal 42 assist season
Both Peterka and Quinn are on the same 27 goal 27 assist 54 point pace, with Quinn having missed the games he did.
With zero additional development and production, and another season to go before their ELC's expire, I don't see any of your $3M range examples as comparables.
If they were, the percent of cap would be roughly 4%, which would be $3.6M with the $90M or so cap limit after next season.
However, they are much closer to Zegras as the comparable, and even at 6% of a $90M cap limit, that would put both Peterka and Quinn at a 2 year bridge with an AAV north of $5M. |

Well Quinn was hurt, it's a nice raise for both. And unless they explode, it's fair - Buff36
I don't see how it's fair.
I looked it up, and $3M is roughly $2M low based on their production rates this season, let alone if they develop further and produce more the rest of this season and next season.
Also, you cannot do a 3 year bridge, as you'd be walking them right into the Reinhart situation.
That cannot happen again. |

Bridge Mitts or trade him.
Give Peterka and Quinn term or we’ll be kicking ourselves once the bridge is over with how much we’ll have to pay them.
If I were a betting man, I’d argue that’s why Adams has been prudent with his outside additions. He knows the young talent coming through the organization will get $$$$.
Also why he’s hesitant on moving prospects because young players on ELC’s are the most cost efficient players with upside.
The long term plan is sound, but he keeps franking up the present which should be the easier part of the job.
Incredibly frustrating. |

Quinn will sign for that. JJ will not and should not. He a much better and more proven NHL’er - lulags
Why would Quinn sign that?
He's producing at the same rate as Peterka.
They still have the remainder of this season and the entire next season to go.
I don't see either signing at $3M unless their production drops. |

I don't see how either accepts $3M per unless they have a big drop in production.
Based on their current production rates, I think their bridge will be at least $5M per. |

You're too focused on ice. Signing guys off ELC's is more about potential, so obviously draft status. The bulk of that list are Quinn comps. JJ's played himself up a notch, but not quite to that level.
3 years is always an option. The player has some leverage in this and KA has been a pushover in all his negotiations so far.

Agreeing to a 3 year term is giving the player everything they want, and all the leverage on the next negotiation.
Cannot do that.
You are too focused on potential, and undervaluing on ice production.
Both are already playing at a 27 goal 27 assist pace, with a season plus to go, and they still have potential to increase their respective production rates.
It means more then you are acting like it does. |

If Quinn took a backloaded 3 year deal for less money than he wanted, isn't he losing on the most important thing?
They both have a year to go that is a big piece of the puzzle. 1.5 years in, it just makes sense to focus more on their draft comps.

I normally would, but their production this season is notable, and already exceeds the comparables.
If it stays the same, or even grows further, zero chance they accept $3M on a bridge. |

No he didn't, Desai was with Chicago before Vic, and Vic left in 2018, Desai didn't become DC until 21 - Buff36
“Desai coached at Temple, Miami and Boston College. He coached defense, special teams and even running backs.”
“He joined the Bears in 2013 as quality control coach and two years later, Fangio became defensive coordinator.
"We were both in the booth and he sat next to me," Desai said. "Well, I sat next to him, I should say. He got to choose where he wanted to sit. I was just put next to him."
“Desai has credited Fangio for how he prepares, approaches the game, seeks buy-in from players and teaches them the 'whys.' Desai has spoken of the importance of distinct vision and identity.
In 2021, while Fangio was serving as Broncos head coach, Desai was promoted to Bears defensive coordinator. Chicago ranked sixth in the NFL in defense, despite key injuries to Khalil Mack, Danny Trevathan and Akiem Hicks.
Players have said Desai will sometimes literally sound like Fangio.“

I know we both agree that signing one or both to a 3 year term, thereby putting them to one year left before becoming a UFA with ARB rights would be a very bad job by the GM. |

Dahlin/Power/Samulesson/Clifton are locked in. Ryan Johnson won’t break the bank. You can potentially move Clifton or buy him out if need be. Joker and E Johnson are probably goners.
Greenway moves on when his deal is up (if he isn’t traded before then) and the $10-12M we have wasted on the jamokes at the bottom of the roster all expire this offseason.
Krebs won’t cost a lot on a short term deal and we have prospects out the ying yang that will be battling for middle 6 spots (one or more should be traded for a top 4 RHD).
UPL should be bridged and I can’t imagine Levi costing a lot come next offseason. Once it’s time for Levi to get paid, UPL is a goner.
Cap keeps rising through it all. The rough decision comes with Tuch two years from now and I think a big part of that will hedge on if they can get out of the last two years of Skinner’s deal |
