One of your best blogs Brad, well written

Upl for 5 years feels like a gamble based on 1 good nhl season.

Hope the Sabres know what they are doing on this one. I was kinda hoping for a prove it deal.

I've said this in the last blog comments, but will say it again: This looks like Adams attempting to emulate what Boston did with Ullmark and Swayman. If UPL plays reasonably well while Levi develops into (hopefully) a really good goalie, then UPL gets traded when Levi is due for his big contract. It all hinges on UPL not being a bad goalie over the next several years.

I know it takes more effort to write this post than it does to just google it, but what are the terms? did I miss that in the article?

EDIT:
Just looked it up and I hate it.

only thing you can do with goalies.

Also need to borrow some of that "hope" you've got there and apply it towards a trade asset, now that they know what upl's celery is long term.

You're comfortable with a 5 year term after a few good months of play, mixed with some bad play last season?

Not the road I would've gone down.

Bet Adams had to call Levi last night to calm him down.

the reason i wrote that it's "fine" is because I'm having a bit of trouble articulating my thoughts on it.

I think it's close to 50/50 that Levi is the starter by the end of this season. What a mess that would create, with Levi due an extension next summer.

few things.

-i cant tell you that upl's deal was solely on merit, more so as an expectation to carry last year's play.

-finding a good young goalie is pretty hard. finding one that performed up to last year's level and not having to pay him north of 7M is even harder. this contract is a reflection of the market and the demand for a young, quality product.

-adams was not going to get railroaded again like he did with Ullmark. it's a question of whether the contract pays off, but I think you're better off keeping a starting goaltender for 5 years instead of inching him to ufa.

-levi is the kind of personality that knows even more than others that playing time is earned. if he becomes the better player, they pay both of them to remain. Hopefully that's a combined 8M instead of what could have been up to 13M for Swayman and Ullmark.

-levi and upl are here for a long time. if upl becomes the second fiddle and is unhappy, he shouldn't be difficult to trade, even with his 5 team no trade kicking in within a few years.

-it's pretty apparent that you need two reliable goaltenders these days. being able to reliably split starts gives you (at best) high quality play but keeps both (Levi's) contract demands down. it's hard to predict today what levi will end up earning on his next deal, but if we're here in 3 years paying 8M to both of our goalies with 100M in total cap, I think we're in pretty great shape.

Long as they perform.

I can see it as Joel is a not a torts guy. lots of smoke around krebs which would be a bad deal for the flyers if he is the main piece.

Yeah, Krebs and his 4 goals last season aren’t getting Joel Farabee in a trade.

Maybe samuelsson and Krebs ?

yes they do plus he is the son of an alumni. that holds a lot of weight!!!

thing id flyers value guys like krebs while they don't place as much value on guys like farabee. they are arguably the worst run team in the league. with the sabres also in the running!!
