Torts said today that the Flyers blueprint for their style of play is checking forward with speed like the Carolina Hurricanes. This is the blueprint for drafting players. Carolina is 3rd in the league in GF/GP, 4th in the league in GA/GP, 8th in the league on the PP, 5th in the league in PK, 1st in the league in shots/GP, 3rd in the league in shots against/GP. Yup, I'd say that is a pretty good blue print. |

Tanking should be an option but they will never do it -- the arent even rebuilding -- every asset except one has been resigned. The team will continue to be mediocre until they realize that they are not getting anywhere - corduroy
they will never come to that realization. at least anyone who is employed there currently. |

Can’t tank won’t tank due to an antiquated and inflated view of themselves that is now almost 50 years old.
As the poster above me said Flyers hockey since the salary cap is losing hockey.
The worst part is the new generation of leadership was infected by the old guard like a cancer spreading to a new organ. Was at the game the other night and it is still all about the bullies, fighting, Rocky, and all that crap to distract from the biggest issue, lack of talent. |

They have two and a half NHL lines, they have I believe 4 NHL defensemen
who are the forwards that make up the 2.5 lines?
Who are the 4 NHL dman?
Flyers hockey is losing hockey. Can you describe flyers hockey and what that is in 2024. - login
OK..
Couts, Laughton, Konecny, Michkov, Farabee, Tippet, Foerster, Frost/Brink?
Sanheim, Risto, York, Drysdale (maybe) or Andrae (who i like more)
Flyers hockey WAS make teams fear coming to Philly. Come from behind. Never Quit, If you someone beats you, let them pay for it. |

while I do not believe the flyers are a talented team. They do have 12 legit NHL forwards on their roster who can play on any team. many just playing above their paygrade.
Seeler is also a legit NHL dman.
Those days are long past gone. they will never ever come back. that philosophy will not work. if that is what they want to get back to then they are really way behind. |

they have been around the old guard for years. they employ the same old worn out won't work philosophy.
they know what flyers "hockey" is and what they think will work. they are out of touch.
have either of them done anything different? anything innovative? |

Their actions are no different -- they are trying to re-tool when they need to rebuild. No reason to extend ns, rp, tk, no reason to sign EJ and stahl last season. The only reason they moved walker is that they could not agree to an extension. They didn't trade laughton due to intangibles -- what a load of bs

well, the style of the current Cup Champ plays classic Flyers hockey. Bill Zito believes in culture more than any GM. The Panthers are tough and play fast.

What the Flyers need to get to the next level/stage can only be obtained through the draft (Absolutely top 3-5 or RARE luck in other rounds).
NO, the Flyers can not obtain these players through trades.
NO, the Flyers will not be able to obtain these players through free agency.
The Rangers, and to a lesser extent the Devils, is where the Flyers WANT to get to. Neither team has won a cup during their current build, but both have the core in place. For them to win the cup it is going to take experience, player growth and finding the right roster mix...and of course some luck.
Both teams have drafted high talent picks, signed some UFA's, made trades that worked in their favor and got help in later round draft picks.
The Flyers are without debate at least 4-5 years away from where the Rangers and NJ are currently at, which is where Flyer fans would be most happy to be at. Every year the Flyers management thinks they can bypass the standard process of building is another year wasted and delays the process.
If the Flyers continue to play bubble hockey year after year...
1) It's going to waste Michkov's career
2) Pittsburgh will probably be able to hit rock bottom, draft high, rebuild and leapfrog the Flyers
The sad part is if that does happen, I will never see the Flyers succeed in my lifetime. |

Panthers also have:
- 1C (Drafted #2 OA)
- 1D (Drafted #1 OA)
- Elite goaltender (2 Vezina)
Then add all the high draft picks obtained through trades (some with their own high draft picks), smart trades, smart free agency, lucky waivers.
A team can have all the culture it wants, but without those high impact players it doesn't mean anything.

But they also have Barkov (#2), Tkachuk (#6), Reinhart (#2), Ekblad (#1), Forsling, and a few more players that actually have top tier talent and production.
Talent matters more than anything and the Flyers wont get it drafting in the middle every year.

Yes he specificaly stated that the Flyers play the same system as Carolina, which he referred to as check forward, though Torts said he didn't know how Rod taught it. He said the difference is Carolina is a deeper and faster team than the Flyers. He also said as long as he is coach that is the blueprint they are following. |

they don't seem to play anything like Carolina to me. as an organization they are nothing like carolina.
what's interesting is they could have hired the Carolina GM. in fact they didn't even interview him. |

here is what you stated: "Flyers hockey WAS make teams fear coming to Philly. Come from behind. Never Quit, If you someone beats you, let them pay for it."
1. do you think any team or players fear going to Florida to play?
2. how do they make team pay for it when they are getting beat?
3. "classic" flyers is dump and chase. your telling me that is the system Florida employs?
Not sure why you even bough tup the panthers to be honest. |

has danny added any young talent to this roster since he took over? going to exclude JD as that was somewhat forced or players drafted by the flyers. |

Their Vezina Trophy goalie has not got them to the cup. Missed pretty much al of last season and will miss a lot of this season.
Carolina has talent but not enough talent. In the end their former GM failed to get enough talent to win them a cup

That is because the Flyers don't have the talent Carolina has. As they grow and get in the right players, I think it will look similar. |

Michkov and Kolosov this season. Next season Bonk and Luchanko. Its coming, you have to be patient. Players take time to develop. |
