Minnesota won this trade giving up a late first and a couple chances for a D that might hit the top 4 . Waddell was schooled by Billy.

Best player likely went to
Minnesota but hard to fault that trade. Thats a lot of draft capital though no guarantee anything turns into a nhl regular the trade was more than I expected for a return

This was a good gamble by the Wild but Columbus got a lot back with Jiricek’s stock being low. Jiricek needs to improve his skating to fit into a top four. Rossi isn’t fast but Ness helped his skating to make him alright. I see him as a meaner Middleton who can work out paired with the right guy. Brackett really likes him. He’s the expert so we’ll see. Hunt looks like a solid 3rd pair to me. Columbus made the best out of a bad situation and the Wild hope they got a guy with snarl who clearly has strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully, he can develop his decisionmaking and on ice awareness.

Columbus got a lot back but its pretty much Quantity over quality. The draft capital is nice but at the end of the day how likely are the Jackets to get a player equal to or better than Jiricek with those picks? Doesnt seem very likely to me especially when Jiricek is a 6th overall pick with high potential.

The team that gets the best player wins the trade and all that. It’s a swing for the fences for Guerin. My guess is Columbus had some buyers remorse gauging that Jiricek wasn’t going to live up to expectations. I like the trade. Jiricek is going to have to put in the work. Right now, he takes risks but can’t skate well enough to cover his mistakes.

It's not a great trade, but like most trades it will two to three years before we see who wins the deal.

The best thing about it is that all the drama is now over with (except for Johnny Hockey), and now the focus is on the team, and how it plays. Unlike the recent past, this is a young team with a chip on its shoulder that is tired of being called one of the worst teams in the league and is out to kick butt and take names.

This is a huge road trip for the team, especially after all the near misses in the recent California swing. If they play well and rack up points in western Canada, they won't be ignored any more.
