He’s going to get paid because of the McDrai bump. Just like Nurse did. Put Bubbles on any other team and he looks a whole lot worse. It’ll be a laugher of a contract he is going to get though.

Great write up Sean
Hey I totally agree on this one. You take Bouchard for what he is, an offensive d man with a lethal shot from the point. Scarey good on the powerplay with the dynamic duo. Guys that have the puck most of the time tend to have giveaways. Anyone that can’t see what he provides isn’t watching the game properly. He reminds of a poor man’s Al MacInnis, patrolling the offensive blue line, trying to unleash the bomb. He makes Ekholm a better rounded defenseman.
This is coming from a diehard Flames fan.

Again great way to analyze it.

Ekholm plays 1/2 of Bouchard's position and he deserves 1/2 of Bouch's paycheck. Most of Bouchard's points (his offensive talent) come from second assists on the PP, usually not even in the zone yet.

Watching the 4 Nations Faceoff live, it's obvious that he can't even come close to competing with these guys.

The Oilers will overpay him for sure.

He's not good.

Man, Mcdavid flying up the ice last night was exactly that!!! DISGUSTING!!! Totally awesome, you should've seen it (there was a rainbow section for Canucks fans).

How does last place taste?
Are you keeping track of Garland's stats in the Quebec Peewee Tournament?

Pretty much.
McDavid looked like he didn’t want to show up his teammates. Played tentative, there were a couple times in ot where I thought MacKinnon should have passed to him. I think we’ll see a different player next game and I hope they put his buddy Sam Bennettt on his other wing. Conner, Sam, and Sam.

McD was flying in the 1st. Made a great pass to Reinhart in front of the net with 10 minutes left in the 3rd that would have put Canada up 4-3 but goalie made amazing save. Canada's PP was sick. McD, McKinnon, Sid, Makar and Reinhart, yes please!

So, even though he only has 16 PP points out of his 44 points, most of his points are second assists on the PP (secondary are actually 11, BTW)? Good mathing. Where does the +21 come from?

I am not disputing that he isn't going to be wickedly overpaid, that will happen. but anyone saying that he isn't a top pair D just simply refuses to look past their own personal biases.

This is a very fair criticism/assessment, and I'm sure his numbers sometimes look okay on paper. I 100% have a personal bias just based quite a lot (too much?) on what I perceive to be his character/intangibles/IQ/grit...whatever you want to call it.

There are players who get a +3 in a 7-1 win and then a -2 in a 0-2, or have decent stats but make that one giveaway in the 3rd that costs the team the game. I see Bouchard as that guy. I think a good example is Pavel Bure, he was absolutely electrifying...never won a damn thing in his life though. The type of player that gets a hat trick in a 5-6 loss, or pumping for more points on a Friday night 6-2 win when they have to play the top team the very next day.

The rather obvious huge factor here is Ekholm, who quite frequently comes over to Bouch's side to his rescue, who leaves the o-zone early "just in case". Not a lot of lLD are seen frequently in the right corner, Ekholm is there A LOT while Bouchard is standing stationary in the slot with his mouth open.

I know there are some great offensive stats out there for Bouchard, I wouldn't mind him being a 4-5million guy on the 2nd line and PP, but the guys he would be paid similarly to that I have watched live the past 2 nights in MTL...not a chance Bouchard is in that category. ZERO chance. and Team Canada agrees with me. Doughty looks like he has Bouchard on his back he's so slow! lol Parayko played okaaaay..but also not so impressive. BOTH players however, are so far ahead of Bouchard as hockey players, so far ahead that I doubt Bouch ever gets there. There's maturity, and then there's guys that just don't get it or see it. Bouchard will likely never process the game quick enough to play at this current super-elite level and he should never be paid as such.

Please don’t make me go and pull up one of your many terrible Draisaitl takes from last year. It’s okay to say you don’t understand the game of today.
