This time last year, the Wings were in this spot and went on a 7 game losing streak that they never really recovered from.

Tough 2d and unable to dig deeply enough to come back. There were errant passes, mis-handled pucks, etc... Wasn't what we're used to, but I think Sat will be a bit different.

CBJ is riding a high. Say what you will about the rivalry, but they've endured a VERY difficult few years, lost a G to a fireworks accident and lost one of THE names in hockey. They're playing with their hearts, and that's a hard thing to do just naturally - there needs to be some sort of impetus taking the athlete to that depth.... I hope that makes sense.

Johnny Hockey was incredible. Even more as a person than as a player. His outreach to the public, his relationships with fans...... He was the real deal, and the loss wasn't just to the team, I think ALL of hockey suffered. That hurt, that pain, that's what can make people do things they otherwise would not be able to. I was a HUGE fan of JH, and I miss him. The ON face-off brought me to tears, my WIFE cried.

Psychological conditioning is just as important as physical conditioning to professional athletes, teams spend millions to help players and coaches elevate their mind. The Army has Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) to help Soldiers rise above, condition their entire being. MY office manages the program (not in my portfolio, but in my office), and the things they do are incredible. Not sure what DRW has in place, but there needs to be a concerted effort for the team to elevate their minds as well as their bodies to overcome adversity, play higher than they normally would. Larkin does it, Raymond's getting it, Mo Sides is one of those that does - The Great 8, McJesus, they ALL have it. We have GOT to find a way to gut it out.

Again, this is a good team (yes, there are needs and we are NOT SFC-ready). There are some non-training related pushes that can be made to rise to the next level. Hockey players and rugby players are the 2 most well-conditioned athletes in sport (my opinion, I played both). The natural barrier to the next level is in the mind, and I feel this is something we could add to the tool kit to elevate the team.

REALLY looking forward to the game Saturday.

I think I gave kudos to the rivalry. That the two teams get up and get going when they meet up and have in multiple iterations. They were tenacious jumping out of the gate and Detroit looked a bit like they were taking this as a “night off” too many times. I think Larkin is nursing an injury again. After the run in with Fabbro he wasn’t bouncing back. That’s going to be a problem, especially as they try to put on a big show for the outdoor game. CBJ outworked the team and the team tried to count on the comeback. WAY too easy for CBJ to get multiple players at net front. That’s a throwback to before the swap. Luckily McLellan called it out in post game and may simplify practice. Bodies in lanes clear out the crease. CBJ has had tragedies, the goalie prospect they lost didn’t hit as hard as JG’s passing. But, they also shipped out Kakko who sounds like was not a great presence. There’s a lot going right for both of these teams to be in the positions they’re in, but Detroit needs to get settled down. The goalies aren’t going to be able to bail them out every night. The return from the break has seen some break downs that need to be stymied quickly

Columbus was ready and played hard. The Red Wings mostly stood around and watched.
