I remember that the knock on Marner when he first came into the league was that he wasn't going to be able to stand up to the physical rigors of the league. He has quelled those doubts for the regular season but they stand up in full force during each of the playoff runs. Since the goal is to win the Stanley Cup and not the President's Trophy, I'll take Benet all day long in this head to head match up...

Interesting, same was said about Patty Kaner, not being to hold up to the physicalness of the NHL.....he turned into Showtime....Marner not so much

Bennett, as a Leaf, would not last more than 6 minutes in each playoff series before he was suspended by the league.

Have to soak him in tomato juice a while to get the Calgary out of him, but I'd love to see Bennett added to the Oilers.

There was one bad Flames fan doing same in Oiler threads when LA was up 2-0. Like (frank) your team didn't even make the playoffs, maybe time to tone down the smack talk or go give it to another non playoff team

Id like to see what he looks like away from Marner. Marner seems afraid to go to the dirty areas in this series… Put Marner with someone tougher and try domi maybe with Matthews might get him going

The amount of hate on this board is incredible. I am not saying anything earthshattering but 30 other teams would do anything to sign either. I think they both sign where they are and there is no drama. The Drama is these next few games. I think Leafs lose, my son says I am crazy. Great series. Enjoy!

Seriously though I have no problem if people are reasonable about it, but (frank) people take it to a whole new level. Criticize all you want, you don't have to tell me that our defense has questions along with our goaltending all smart Oiler fans know this. But don't be a troll about it

I don't know. Personally as an Oiler fan I rather not sign either.

Even if we did somehow move on from a couple of guys in our forward group, I rather maybe spend some money to help our back end out or even our goaltending. A lot will depend on how the playoffs shake out and I guess how this team looks if Ekholm comes back.

Bennett would cost less. Therefore less of a risk.

This is a trick question.
On the surface, Bennett because he shows up when it matters. You don't need to win the division, just win in the playoffs.
Here's the trick, though. Bennett would get the Kadri treatment if he was on Toronto, or at least six of the other teams in the league, like Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver. The punch to Stollarz's head would have gotten "the rest of the series". Bennett wouldn't be effective from the press box, but then again, he took out Toronto's hot goalie for the series, so maybe it would have been a fair trade.
One thing is for sure, when Florida faces Carolina next round, Freddy had better be careful.
