If this was a different version of the Habs I would say they absolutely should not sign him. His past issues are well noted, even though he seems to have turned a corner. On a team without strong leadership and an established character, he could very likely run off the rails and be ineffective or a distraction. Ie: Sergei Samsanov and the Kostitsyn brothers .
However, with the current version of the Habs and the leadership in place in both management, coaching and within the team, I think he would do well. I think the overall character of the team would keep his behaviours in line, and if he did step out of line(small odds), it would not spread due to the rest having already bought into the collective identity.
So in summary, sign him to a nice one year contract to get Demidov acclimatized, be a temp fill for 2C as youth develops, and Kuzy gets a shot at returning to the NHL. Nice deal for everyone I think. |
