Could go either way but I think the Oilers win this one if they go with Skinner in net. Mostly because I think they are the better team but also because they are the hotter team. The Leafs could win, they are good enough. Guess we’ll have to wait till the final buzzer. 🤷♂️ |

So just checked on the Scoring leaders and I see McDavid has 124 pts vs. Matthews 62. Seems we can finally put to rest that debate about who is better. - ruttager17

Keep on circling that drain champ!!

If it wasn't for the kicked in goal in 89 you wouldn't even have a cup.
Canucks got what in 2011 an excuse to riot!

This was never EVER a debate and it is very unfair to Matthews to put that pressure on him (although he looks like he doesn't even care if he plays hockey or orders sushi). It's not even a debate Matthews vs Draisaitl...let alone McDavid.
I was laughed at when I said I'd probably take Marchand over Matthews...at least he has a pulse.
Matthews isn't top 20. So many better players. |

Just for poops and giggles I decided to look at the Flames draft history since 2010 and Jesus Christ is it hilarious.
So, in that time period they traded away their first round pick 4 times
No pick in the second round 5 times
Which doesn’t really matter when you look at the brilliant picks they did make in the first and the players they passed up on in parentheses.
2010 no pick
2011 Sven Baertschi (JT Miller)
2012 mark Janitor Jankiwski ( Brady Skejl, Tanner Pearson)
2013 Sean Monohhan ( Nurse, Ristolainen, Nishkushkin, Horvat)
2014 Sam Bennett ( William Nylander, Nick Ehlers, David Pastrneck)
2015 No Pick
2016 Mathew Tkachuck
2017 juuso Valinaki ( Yamamoto)
2018 No Pick
Not gonna go any farther because picks shouldn’t be judged for 4 or 5 years but you get the point. Flames fans think there is some honour in not finishing in the bottom 5 or winning draft lotteries and rather trade away first round picks and draft like absolute poop the vast majority of the time. There is no surprise the Oilers kicked the living poop out of them last year in the playoffs and now that team will likely miss the playoffs this year. |

McDavid is the best offensive player in the league and it's not close.
His defensive liabilities are overcome by how good he is with the puck.
Matthews is equally good both ways.
Would I trade Matthews for McDavid? In a heartbeat.
But there aren't any other players in the league except for maybe Makar I would trade Matthews for.
Good hockey players play both sides of the puck. |

I think it's only a matter of time before McDavid's defensive game becomes elite; Bieksa nailed it last night in the intermission.
The whole Matthews vs. McDavid is a fun juvenile thing for 12-year olds to argue over I guess, but it means nothing to me.
I'm just happy the Leafs are a competitive team again and the Oilers should be thinking the same thing. Both of them being in the playoffs on a regular basis is good for hockey and the future of Canadian hockey. |

Exactly. Since 2005 Flames have been circling the drain. Funny how EDM's drafting gets knocked while the Flames is just as bad...or worse.

I watch the Oilers as much as I can because they are fun and exciting to watch just like last night against Toronto but honestly this Edmonton team has not filled the holes that they need to to get the ultimate hardware. |

It’s incredible that the Oilers haven’t come close to winning a cup in the McDavid era. You have a guy who is, if we’re being honest, the greatest hockey player of all time. And year after year he’s surrounded by a bunch of useless turds
1st overall pick after 1st overall pick, and nothing. This team is still no threat to win anything. How is that possible??

I dunno dissect the draft picks? Truth is the built it backwards. Hindsight is 20/20 but they should have focused more on defence from 2009-2013 and let them develope. Then draft forwards around McD. You forget that the intention in the 5 years leading up to drafting MCD was to build around Taylor Hall. |
