I was against him when his name was first mentioned solely because I wanted a fresh face/non-retread...but after looking at his body of work a bit closer I think he was pretty good for Calgary...and it's not like he was fired, he resigned. Apparently he resigned mostly because of bumping heads with HC Sutter.

That McCann trade is even more brutal. Have to give credit to Rutherford. When he made the trade, everyone thought Bjugstad was the main asset he wanted. He said that McCann was. He was right about his potential.

Honestly, unless we win the lottery and move up to #4, I hope our GM considers moving the pick for a young NHL player. Not sure who a good target would be, but it would make a lot more sense than rolling the dice that a kid will be ready in 3 years.

I could see him as a reasonable candidate. I think FSG knows they need an experienced hire given the work that needs done. He worked through the Tkachuk mess well all things considered.

Bourque and Madden are pushing the same garbage.

Also, who the (frank) is Strickland and what has he ever had insider info on?

No this was Stickland speculating. He said "don't be shocked if there's mutual interest in a possible hockey ops executive position" noting the family connection. These kinds of speculations are common when jobs are open and rarely come to anything. We've heard "don't be shocked if there's mutual interest between the Penguins and Pierre McGuire" every time this job opens up. Not sure he's ever gotten an interview.

I’m just hating the brassard trade more and more now. Obviously we all thought brassard was what we wanted and can’t fault trader Jim for how it went. But, gustavsson is looking great in Minny, and that 1st rounder turned into kandre Miller. Two players we could really really use. Stupid whiny brassard.

The "report" was nothing more than speculation by Strickland due to the Bowman family's ties to Pittsburgh. Many others more in touch with whats going on in Pittsburgh says there is nothing to Bowman-Pittsburgh.

FSG wouldnt make a hire like that.

It's honestly hilarious that people like Madden would want Bowman.

Bowman was a nepo hire into the Blackhawks organization. He had no prior hockey experience when he was hired as a special assistant to the GM. He became GM in 2009... when literally the entire Chicago core was in place and playing well. He had Hossa fall into his lap. He didnt do much else to win those 3 Cups. He then blew up the team in 2015 and they havent recovered since.

I dont care if Bowman works in hockey again due to the scandal he was involved in (and played a big role in). He shouldnt work in hockey again because he was a mediocre GM.

Madden is an idiot though, so I'm not surprised. "He won 3 cups" is his argument.

That idiot also thinks the Pens would be better off with Trochek over Geno. Pens centers could be Sid, Trochek, Granlund, Carter lol. Hot damn.

I dont think Madden is an idiot about hockey, I think he is a guy who thinks he needs to take the opposite viewpoint to entertain and get listeners. It's a bad business model to me, and one that I wouldnt do, but to each their own I guess.

The Trocheck one is just insane. Madden was hell bent on changing up the Penguins by breaking the one part of the team (top 6) that wasnt the problem. I watched most of the Rangers/Devils games in the first round, Trocheck was largely invisible. Geno had more of an impact in Game 1 last year than Trocheck did in Round 1 this season.

Eh. Even outside his show, I've read Madden articles, and I don't really feel like he provides any sort of real analysis. He's just a parrot. Loud and obnoxious, even when he tries to provide analysis, it's mostly empty analysis.

"They need to be harder to play against"
"They need to change it up"
"Geno has to be better"

The guy can't get into the weeds, or chooses not to in his articles. On his show, I can understand why you don't get into the weeds or details on stuff because it's for entertainment, but his articles just parrot his show and are really just his show points regurgitated in text form, minus the loud/speaking down aspect.

Anytime listeners ask him what specifically should be done, he falters and can only provide insults as oppose to proposing tangible solutions.

Also, when you come out and say Trochek is the best PP bumper guy in the league, and leave out Brayden Point in that conversation, you're an idiot.

I guess to that end it makes sense why he was calling for Trouba’s head. I assumed that with his tough guy persona he wouldn’t have had a huge issue with the hit but if he’s shock jocking him all of a sudden being all in on brain protection and calling for Trouba to get kicked out of the league makes a lot more sense.

Madden is there strictly for entertainment, but he is plugged into the pens pretty well. Mario does an interview every 10 years and it’s with Madden.
