The Jets should have been trying to get rid off some defensemen last year. Guys like Pionk, Dillon, Shmidt, Stanley and Demelo should be sold off to the highest bidders. Its sad that this franchise says its "draft and develop" and yet we have lost Gawanke and Kovecevic for essentially nothing. |

I agree with we should've traded some D last year but lets be honest. Gawanke is NOT and NHL D and never will be and even Kovacevik is the 7/8 D on a bottom three team in Montreal. |

Interesting stats
Kovacevic played over 15mins a game
Was a +3 on a horrible team
Even chipped in 15 points
6’5” RHD
Not saying he’s a sure thing but those are numbers that say NHL player |

I would think that Schmidt, Pionk and Stanley should have been moved out, but it seems this franchise likes to keep the bad contracts and play them until contract expiry.
I can live with Demelo and Dillon, but Kovecevic was ahead of Heinola and Stanely imop. |

Some wanted to move out 4/6th of our top six d-men. Well, who you going to replace them with - Gawanke, Chisholm, Heinola, and Capobianco? Maybe include Hellebuyck and go for Connor Bedard. You just can't compete with 3-4 rookies on the b-line.
I also think moving Kovacevics was a mistake, but still only 3rd pairing on the Habs who were in the Bedard sweepstakes. Capo needs to go - plus at some point the Jets will move a DeMelo, Dillon (I hope not) or a Schmidt. Some will say Schmidt is untradeable, but we'll see.
See that P. Bergereon has retired. Well "hello" M. Scheifele. No, afraid not, the Bruins have nothing the Jets need (without a no-trade clause). Unless a 3-team deal??? |

have to disagree, those numbers really dont say that. you'd be surprised how many D play 15/min a night and still bounce between NHL/AHL. look up Mike Reily for example, much better D than Kovacevik and cant find a place to play |

True on the bolded text however Boston is apparently waiting on Lindholm to see what happens... then maybe Schief.
Boston have a couple goalies that could replace Helle if another teams steps up for Helle, so there are possibilities.
I forgot to included Capo in my previous post..... |

I want to see Scheifele stay. I am in the minority on this board. I cannot imagine what this team will look like with Lowry as our number 1 center. |

If 55 decides that he wants to stay and wants to play a more complete game, I would be okay with keeping him. The talent is there, the attitude needs adjusting.

It has long been said that Wheeler and Scheifele were "connected at the hip". It has also been said (even on here) that the culture in the Jets dressing room left a lot to be desired.
Therefore, I want BOTH of "the big dogs" out of there - gone!!! I do not want to see 55 in a Jets jersey again in the near future. No way! Let Morrissey and Lowry lead, get some new blood in there. And if that doesn't work, well ........... take further measures.
I do not want to see the lack of tenacity by the Jets when "the chips are on the table" again!

Maybe 55 will be a a different person without 26 around ? Hard to say.

Whom per se would Lowry and Morrisey have learned their "leadership" skills from? |

That's one way to look at it I suppose.
I believe Lowry and Morrissey have had leadership roles since they were teen-agers probably, not just with the Jets. I also believe that just because they wore "A's" when Wheeler wore the "C" and Scheifele an "A", doesn't mean they were disciples of the captain and his side-kick.
Lowry and Morrissey both lead by example, if, as some think, in no other way. Maybe I'm the only one thinking this way, but they play a part of my leadership team going forward.
And we have potential captains, if we believe their press clippings, in McGroarty and Barlow, on the way.

Everyone but Morrissey, DeMelo, Samberg, and Heinola is for sale for me.
Morrissey was a juggernaut, DeMelo can’t be replaced at his cap hit, Samberg was a legit top 4 D last season, and Heinola needs a full time job and paired with Samberg a lot in the past.
Get Chisholm in with Schmidt (too liked in the room to be moved if it costs you), and call it a day. |

You do when your current mattress is horribly (Pionk), about to collapse on itself (Dillon), and you have a replacement waiting to be delivered that got rave reviews from everyone else (Heinola) |

Mike Reilly signed in Florida, Reilly was squeezed out of his spot in Boston by your favorite former Jet Forbort.
