I said it in the previous thread, at $5M per or less, I would keep him. His 200ft game has improved significantly and the slumps in offense don’t appear to impact his overall game like they did earlier in his career. |

So if Hagel and Tippett are the comps, the cap hit is the neighborhood of 6.2
If you can get him a little under that great. For those saying 5 per? That's how you lose him. Take a good look at the free agent class it's pure poop.
Reinhart and Geunztel most likely stay were they are with hefty raises. Stamkos is 34 and probably staying in Tampa. (frank) Tyler Bertuzzi POS, other names out there
Vrana
Teravainen
Marchessault
Labanc
Arvidsson
Toffoli
I like some of those but they're either underachievers or a bit long in tooth for a retool. |

My $5M comment was essentially a no-brainer move regardless of term. Anything above that I would have to see the entire contract (term, conditions such as NTC/NMC, etc.) but wouldn't necessarily be against a higher number.

The more I think about it the more I want to keep him around. His game has grown over the last couple years and he has been pretty dependable even when not scoring. He isn't afraid to handle the puck, is very solid along the board defensively, kills penalties and is one of our more skilled players. Not to mention he has produced in the last two playoffs.
I think he is going to have a couple big seasons coming up.

Short term 5.5 is as High as i would go. They can sign filler for the next couple years in a Taffoli/Marchessault type if Debrusk wants more than that. They will need to retool for a couple years before they will be a threat for a champinship.
So what are we really talking about here? DeBrusk also is prone to hot and cold streaks and is also prone to underachieving. His production can be made up by either one of Geekie or Frederic.
At the right price, sure keep DeBrusk. I just dont believe he is that hard to let go of.

At 6.5mil/per, he can have a fantastic season in San Jose. |

6.5 is much too high. There is no universe were he should make more than Hagel or Tippett. 5.5-5.75 MAX. If he tests free agency then that's what he does.
Then you're trying to plug the gap with something a bit older like Toffoli, Arvidsson or Marchessault

The need for post season production. Geekie was so/so and Frderic was in the Zacha catagory. USELESS

Is riddled with emotion. It's too low and he will get more.

Tampa has to make some major moves before they can extend Stamkos. Guessing one of Cernak or Sergachev needs to be traded. |

Gotta make the post season first. I still think they are a post season team going into next year without DeBrusk.
Agreed, Freddy could have done more. But the team as a whole couldn't score when it mattered the most. Love to have DeBrusk back at the right price, but I am also not going to be hurt if he leaves. |

Didn’t realize Arvidsson was a free agent. I’d be in. Love Marchessault but he’s already 33 so you’re signing him for the decline. Obviously wouldn’t be opposed but I’m assuming someone else will offer him a longer contract. |

The options for wing could be interesting, but many of them are meh. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
I really hope they make a good offer to Chandler Stephenson. That would be a great fit. Would also be ok with Taffoli for the right price. Lindholm if Vancouver lets him go.
Marchessault would be a mistake for any more than a couple years but if its just 2-3 years, could be worth it. We will see there. He will likely get a big contract from soneone.
Tarasenko is past his prime but could be cheapish fill for a couple years.
Somehow acquiring Necas would be fantastic. Unlikely I think, but you never know. |

Elias is option 1 for me. They need someone winning faceoffs on the top line. Chandler is also one of my favorite players to watch so I’m all in on him as well. He can be pretty streaky like Debrusk though.

Thats a fair point. I just like that when Stephenson was given the opportunity to fill in as the 1C for vegas, he shows up. I think he goes on streaky stretches when he gets put on the wing on the second line or is asked to center the third line with no help. He is someone I would love to see play with Pasta. I think that would help him find some more consistency.
I think Elias is going to have a bidding war for his services. |

Best of the bunch not named Stamkos or Guentzel I think. I'd be shocked if LA doesn't retain him. |
