Those first two periods were brutal. During intermission guys were pouring beer into their shoe and drinking it! What a crazy night

In rugby, that's called "Shooting the Boot"; a reference to punishment for various offenses normally related to messing up lyrics in rugby songs during the drink-up. As the Song Master for all teams I played with, minus my 1st team in Japan, I held the right to entertain allegations and administer said punishment deemed appropriate for the offense. But that was back in the days when when a gentleman's game was played by holligans 😎.

Ok, so wth is going on with the Detroit system? Excepting Toledo, GR & DRW have a horrible habit of screwing off for given periods of the game then express remorse at having lost. This is, simply, bull-shirt. I've watched nearly all SCPO games this year, if we'd have made it.......yikes. These games are brutal. Guys slinging their bodies around like galdiators without fear of injury. Hell, even the rat, Marchand, stated intent to injure players. Now, I don't condone intentionally injuring players, but I do like the intensity. We don't have that in GR or on the NHL roster.

There's been a ton of banter on this blog since I joined a few years back about the lack of talent on the team, and much frustration about the guys taking any number of periods off....phoning it in. Coaches can't force a change in this, nesessarily...my opinion. Players need to have their minds set before the game. There's GOT to be a mental check done on these 2 teams. Not sure how to get it to a level of consistency. I watch guys in the SCPO and am floored at the intensity of play. We truly need guys who let it all hang out.

Despite this, we were 2d in come-from-behind wins this season, so the talent is there to make the SCPO, but there's not much to sustain it if we were to make it. There has GOT to be a change. Size, speed, etc... is nice to have, but if the mind isn't there from puck-drop (if not warm-ups), being behind is inevtiable. It's a team-level thing. There are some guys who have to motor running, but not nearly enough.

Oh, was blown away when comments were made that teams build their game plan around Raymond.....that says something about how dangerous he can become, and currently is. Kid's a gem.....

Yeah, the shoe beer was awful to watch! I don’t know how to change the starts. The come from behind is something I would hear a lot, but right now it’s not a game that will work against Milwaukee. Their goalie was unreal once GR finally turned it on. It sounded line nearly 20 Wings office/scouts were watching. Mazur made some really good defensive plays but for 2 periods Milwaukee just dominated. I just can’t find an answer on the starts. Winning covers mistakes. Their run after Christmas was insane but the playoffs are humbling the group right now. They can’t outscore their mistakes.

Truly seems systemic; something both front office folks need to find an answer for. If it was us vs. NYR, we would've been dismantled this year. Gotta fix this.

Having a Canadian team in the mix along with large established markets sure doesn't hurt the viewing.

Wholly agree. The BOS-TOR series last game saw around 3.5m viewers. Tronno is a huge market, for sure. On the flip-side, I'm happy to see a Canadian team running this deep into the SCPO because.... HOCKEY!!!

According to some rumors, the 'Hawks may have some interest in bringing Kane back......does that mean we no longer like him

Obviously this is a lane I keep track of. Wait on streaming vs broadcast and minutes watched. Takes about a month. Hoping for long engagement and heavy broadcast. Will deep dive another time.

I remember after the Chicago game the look on his face. He was broken. I wrote that I didn’t think he’d be back. I got some flack, but he wasn’t the same after that. Awesome player but lost the “fun” element. He made history there. After the whirlwind of that night and the Washington blowout, his body language just looked off.

I agree with you and what you observed. I went back & watched several games I'd DVRd.....he wasn't Patty Kane, he was unhappy, seemed unfulfilled, not in the right place, it was written all over his body language and mannerisms. I'm glad to have had him, but like any other player (Vrana, for example....); if they don't WANT to be a Wing and be proud of it, then they need a new home.

I mean if you are in Kane's position why would you want to come back? Even if the wings offer the same money/term as other teams. Team isn't making the playoffs. Why not go back to where you are legend and to play with Bedard.

I don’t blame him at all. Just interesting because there was flack when I said it. I think he missed it more than he realized.

Agree. I think he gave everything he could but the back and forth with Cheli and love from fans just sent him back

Has anyone else seen this? I know they sold part of District Detroit last year but it sounds like they’re demoing buildings

i could see if the wings were contenders and he would be the final piece but they arent even close to that. for sure not coming back. they shouldnt bring back Perron either.

Kane and Detroit always seemed like a marriage of convenience.

He presumably wants one more big payday and/or run at the Cup. But coming off that surgery, there was no way he'd have gotten big money or a spot on a contender last year. He needed to prove he still had it first.

Detroit was in the best position to take a chance on him. Bubble team, had cap space, had an open spot. Not a bottom feeder. Decent offensive tools to work with (including Kane's former linemate). A lot to gain and very little to lose. If he's good enough, maybe he helps them into the playoffs. If he stinks, who cares.

Seems like it worked out for both sides, more or less, even though playoffs didn't materialize. Would be nice to have him back but it always seemed like a long shot.

Part of Detroit was being close to family. No one would give him more than one year. I think he may just want to retire w Hawks. For as little as he signed for not sure what his ask will be. I respect his tenacity. That surgery is rough
