I hate to say it being a Blues guy but Barry Trotz understands how to build a team. The central is going to be tough over the next 10 years ! Wild Hawks and Preds not to mention Utah man it is going to be fun. I say no way Saros is traded.

If Saros gets traded it won’t be to a Metro Division team. He isn’t big enough to play there.

Trotz inherited a good situation in Nashville.

His career stats versus Metro division teams were slightly better than other divisions. Not a small sample size either. We're talking hundreds of games. But I guess sources are saying those Metro GMs are scared he is too small.

OK, Josi makes 8.5 and Forsberg, who had substantially better numbers than Marner makes just over 9. Marner makes 10.9 and very likely thinks he's entitled to an increase. How's that going to work? No lack of state income tax is going to paper over that difference. I wish I could take credit for this line of thought but LeBrun made the point in a column a few days ago.

I love Z and I miss Z and I'd actually like to think a switch has flipped and he's now a trustworthy Top 4 D - he looked the part in the playoffs. But I'd be wary.

Josi signed his deal 5 years ago, so it's really not relevant in comparison to what is going to present-day signing.

Marner will likely stay around the same or get a slight increase because of market factors. There are only so many players with his skills available in a given year and that's going to drive his price up regardless of whether he actually "deserves it" or not.

People can say what they want about him but he's an incredibly talented player and is going to produce offensively. Plenty of GM's would be happy to take the risk on him over some 31yo vet that they're going to sign long enough to see become useless

If Dallas falls short in winning the Cup, I could see him waiving for a market like Dallas.

This is probably the end for Pavelski. Or he comes back at $1-2M. Craig Smith is off the books. Maybe they let Duchene walk and bring in Marner. Next year Benn's $9.5M is off the books. So is Suter's $3.65M so longer-term they can fit Marner in.

An offer could include an ELC like Stankoven or Harley, + picks. Doesn't sound like a great return for Toronto. But the real asset is gaining $10M of net cap space. So they can use $10M to bring in guys like Pesce, Roy, DeBrusk, re-sign Domi, etc...Can't do all of that with $10M, but they have a lot more to work with money from Brodie, Klingberg, Bertuzzi, Samsonov, Edmundson, etc..
