If Swayman is asking for 8, he's being more than fair, Id rather have him than Price, Bob, or Vasilesky, all who make 9.5 mil on up.

I like Swayman and I hope the team can get him a new deal but...

1) he's an RFA just coming off an ELC. Handing out 8m seems overkill. You cant go from 925k elc to 8m - you only do that for generational players.

2) he had some decent regular season numbers and kept the Bruins in the playoff series, but overall his all-star numbers are from 1 post-season.

3) Not a chance the Bruins can/should be spending 12m-13 on goaltending. They need cap space for forwards who can score and give Pasta some breathing room. They desperately need a 1C.

If Bruins give Swayman the upper end of 7-8m and can't afford a good 1C, they will just repeat the last 3 post-seasons = early exit.

They should be looking at a bridge deal ~ 6m. Every other player on the Bruins (including Bergeron, Marchand and Pasta) took bridge deals.

The other goalies you mention are overpaid. Hard to use them as a measuring stick.

For once i agree with you. Just curious, if you were the hawks who would you pick with #2?

Oops - guess I didn't scroll down far enough on capfriendly on my phone.

That aside - Bruins can't spend 13m on goalies.
So they HAVE to trade Ulmark or do a real bridge deal (I don't count arbitration as a bridge deal).

they need a 1C as badly as they need to re-sign Swayman

You don't rob Peter to pay Paul. They need both. Sway has earned the contract, pay him!

Can't get blood from a stone either. If they can afford both - sure. But if he wants close to 8m no more of these stupid NMC.

It's a balancing act. But what he's telling you is that top tier talent gets these deals and it doesn't matter if people on the internet like it or not. You can operate your way, you can also be as relevant as Columbus.

Swayman is the priority. Without a real goaltender you're Philly, Carolina or Toronto. We've had strong goaltending for so long, I think that the days of Manny Fernandes, Alex Auld, Jeff Hackett and Steve Shields are forgotten.

Let me remind you that without it, you're (frank)ed. Doesn't mean you need to bend over for it either.

As for a 1C. I'm not sold that Lindholm is the guy or really any of them. This free agent class is pretty weak. May not be the time to strike.

This. I'm not sold Lindholm is the answer either, but he would be better in the dot than Zacha at this point. This next year is going to be tricky if they dont do something to address down the middle.

Move Ullmark for a center, or move him and draft a center. Poitras coming back will help a bit but no matter what they do I dont see them having a bonified #1 center. Lindholm can play at it, but that still isnt enough.

I'm not convinced about being a for real contender next season. I think realistically they need 2 seasons to be a real cup contender. Be competitive yes. The more experience for guys like Lohrei and Poitras is good. I believe a little patience now, will set them up for years to come. Doing something like going all in for Marchand would be catastrophic. They emptied the cupboards for Krejci and Bergeron and it's severely damaged their ability to build anything through the draft.

They already have a very bad long term commitment to Hampus Lindholm. I hope they're just a little more judicious about who they bring on a huge deal.

Bruins would do that but don't see Oilers going for it.

And does Ulmark want to move to Edmonton? He has control.

Well thanks captain obvious. Of course what we think doesn't matter to the team.

I am sure Swayman won't let any money on the table for the GM's need to find a good 1C.

If sweeney can manage locking up swayman, trading ullmark for good value and getting a center that can at least play the part of a 1C or 2C, then ill call it a win. We will see what happens though.

We could get that, or we could get more 4-5 year contracts for some aging players. Hard to tell where Sweeney is going to go sometimes.
