The stock has fallen on this guy so far, do you risk asking for a 4th and a sweetener? Perhaps Patrik will be Utah bound? They have so many draft picks, Could be a great reclamation project!

Tortorella would have Laine riding pressbox his whole tenure. Waste of assets, and also why is Columbus adding a top pairing RH defensemen to this trade????

Laine is coming off a year where he had 9 points in 18 games, had a concussion and a broken clavicle and is still in the player assistance program. I'm normally way off on what I expect a player will command in return on a trade, but is there really that much value here?

2nd/3rd round pick and a prospect?

Don't care about Tortarella.

I am not taking the whole Laine contract without something significant. injuries. Player assistance program. I am taking all the risk.

Not just that. Laine is the type of player that many coaches can't stand. He's a one dimensional offensive only player. I like him. Even if say Dubas could get him for a minimal risk return such as you suggested, I know Sullivan would hate him on day 1 and probably never want him on the team. And many NHL coaches will be that way with him.

For that reason, I see a fit with Montréal. St-Louis seems to be good at getting players to buy into something without affecting their overall vision of the game. Not sure what we would give, though. That whole contract seems expensive, so I'm taking it only with 25% retained. I think for that, a 2nd and an ok prospect, someone like Barron, since we don't seem to have any place for him, it'd offer him a new start.

Not sure what the Blue Jackets need, though, so maybe you'd want a forward instead. Maybe Dvorak? Not much value, but Laine is pretty much negative value at the moment. Pretty sure Ylonen doesn't cut it. Maybe some sort of package.

If the Blue Jackets don't want to retain, I'm not going above a third for the pick, and the prospect drops, so the aforementioned Ylonen. A fourth and Barron. Something along those lines.

If I were Doug Armstrong I’d offer Justin Faulk and Nikita Alexandrov for Laine at 50% 4.35. Faulk is 6.5 3years .

Nobody wants Laine and his bloated contract and lazy attitude unless Columbus gives a huge sweetener to the deal.
