Laine in Chicago could actually make sense.
Could see Laine becoming a 40-50 goal scorer beside Bedard.

What the trade looks like would be interesting to say the least

Laine with Kent Johnson thrown in as a sweetener? Hawks can send back a 4th or someone like Raddysh.

Because of his past problems, his ongoing problems with addiction, his contract I’d hope whoever trades for him isn’t giving up much. That said I’d prefer Chicago not take the chance as intriguing as his potential chemistry with Bedard may be.

If I could have my way… Dawson Mercer (NJ).

Update: Chatfield signed for 3 years with a $3 million AAV.

Debrusk is my ideal signing. Don’t have to trade for his rights. Doesn’t want $8x7 or something crazy. Plays a solid two way game and likely puts up more points with access to a PP1

I wonder if Foligno and/or Hall will have any kind of pull to get him to sign in Chicago.

Probably doesn’t hurt to join a team where you know guys, I’m sure if Chicago is a consideration Debrusk will be in touch with those guys.

I'm getting Pacioretty vibes from Guentzel. One of those guys that should be a good signing, but something goes terribly wrong. Just read this about his pre-trade injury which is likely coloring my judgement:

“Then in February, only a few weeks before the deadline, Guentzel broke some ribs and his oblique muscle ripped right off the bone.”

is his problem addiction related? I thought the PA program was for a number of different issues.

I know there was talk in the last blog about Necas. I think he would be a good piece to add to the team but the trade has to make sense for the Blackhawks.

I've been watching the Bears, they didn't agree to terms with Roquan Smith, they traded him to the Ravens and signed 2 really good LBs for about the same total price it would of cost him to sign Smith.

Johnson wanted to reset the CB market and again Poles negotiatiated a good deal, where the player got a very nice contract and the Bears didn't reset the market.

The reason I'm pointing this out is if Necas is part of the Blackhawks future they are not going to over pay him. I will go out on a limb and say KD will not give an 8 year contract to a 30 year old FA or and over pay someone like Necas.

What i can see KD doing the same thing the Leafs did with Willie, over pay on a one year deal then sign a reasonable long term deal.

I read that he was addicted to Minecraft, or some other video game that sucks you in for days at a time.

The Rangers have agreed to terms with Kaapo Kakko on a one-year, $2.4M qualifying offer, per @NYP_Brooksie

Sign and trade or is he off the board ?

I would guess off the board. He's a useful forward signed at a reasonable number and he gives them some flexibility with it only being a year.

Gotta say, the Rangers are set up quite well at the moment. A good team with a really good goalie, cap space and some really good prospects coming.

Probably a “show me” deal and Kakko will be on a short leash.

Kakko is great defensively. Once their logjam on PP1 ages out he’ll start to blossom.

Difference is Toronto already had Nylander, they didn't have to give up a first round pick and a prospect for him (rumoured Carolina asking price) If you are going to pay that price, I would think that you would have decided to make a long term commitment to sign him. Kind of a high price to pay for a 2 year rental.

I don't see Necas getting over $8M but maybe he does. Like you, I'd be more concerned about what it would take to pry him away (and beat all the other suitors).

I haven't followed football in about 8 years. Did they let Smith walk, or trade him? what did they get back, and the two guys they signed - were they combined as good as Smith?

I'm all for maximizing assets, but you can run the risk of cutting off your nose to spite your face. Example: sure EDM has Cap issues and less depth, but if you trade one of the stars to fill out the rest of your roster, do you run the risk of turning your team into Nashville?

A bit like Reichel's "show something" deal for less than 2 million...

I think Guentzel should be the target. But him agreeing to a 3 year contract seems like a pipe dream. He's probably looking for closer to double that term.

He was traded to Baltimore for a draft pick. The two guys we signed are starting linebackers.

Poles went high with guaranteed money to Johnson but kept the overall cap hit down. A subtle but significant difference to hockey. He was right on the linebackers.
